@SandySprings_PD — THE PUBLIC DESERVES AN EXPLANATION. ⚖️

A video circulating online appears to show one of your officers following a Black woman walking at Morgan Falls Park, requesting her identification, and ultimately directing her to leave.

So let’s put the emotion aside and establish the facts:

Why was she initially approached? What specific conduct prompted the ID request? Was she suspected of violating a law or park rule? Why was she ordered to leave? Were other visitors approached or asked for identification under the same circumstances?

If there’s additional context missing from the viral video, RELEASE IT. Body-camera footage, incident documentation, and the department’s explanation could answer these questions.

I’m not going to declare racism based solely on a social-media clip—but I’m also not going to pretend that a police encounter raising legitimate questions shouldn’t be scrutinized.

TRANSPARENCY PROTECTS THE PUBLIC AND GOOD OFFICERS.

@SandySprings_PD, what happened here? 🎀⚖️
