Then don’t, man. Just serve your neighbor — he’s not evil.
You hate them for being hateful; they hate you for being hateful. Both of which are just abstractions. Who wins but hate?
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
It does and that is the duty of the education system. Instead, we teach the retarded version of civic duty, “just vote,” because we evidently think our children too dumb to combine multiple thoughts. And more than that, my argument is that no vote at all is worth more than an uninformed vote. People are just out here clicking buttons for the fuck of it
I’ve never understood why people think it is good or even ones duty to vote no matter how uneducated about the election you are. All that does is dilute the informed vote. If there is an election on the ballot that you have no knowledge or opinion, about leave it blank.
There is a similar issue going on with entertainment media as there is with politics — polling and data-driven thinking which precludes and ends up shutting down bold, zeitgeist-changing ideas.
That way of thinking forgets that individuals are nuanced and have eclectic opinions that are not as easily put into categories as the electoral industry seems to suggest. Voters reject the two-dimensional reflection politicians give them.
People feel before they think, and talented politicians express the peoples’ belief on their behalf so they too can articulate it. As the parties are in flux going into 2028, it will be interesting to see who is able to break through conventional wisdom and speak to the silent majority.
Rhetoric is "the art of probing what men believe they ought to believe.” (Wayne Booth)

“I know you are but I’m running for President”

This abjectly dumb comment encapsulates the worldview which is reducible to the privileged kid not able to understand that the default state is poverty and scarcity.
If anything it’s true insofar as capitalism creates excess resources that can be reallocated with charitable intent. Both the waste and the abundance that allows it is a unique product of capitalism.
The issue with these folks seeing everywhere they look where society strays from heaven, is that they without second thought seek to tear down what is keeping us from being in hell.
@SSwiber In college there were off-campus houses that had some serious regulatory advantages. But, greek houses have an incentive to 1) maintain their alumni network and 2) seem legitimate to rushees. If you can do that… schools will still try to get the city to shut you down
