The short answer is no, the core doctrine has not changed: Jehovah’s Witnesses still officially refuse transfusions of whole blood and its four primary components (red cells, white cells, platelets, and plasma).
However, there has been a very significant recent update in March 2026 regarding how a person's own blood can be used.

The 2026 "New Light" Update
As of March 2026, the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses issued an update (Governing Body Update #2) that specifically changed the rules on stored/pre-donated blood:

Previous Rule: It was strictly forbidden to store one's own blood for later use (pre-operative autologous donation), because the doctrine required that once blood left the body, it must be "poured out" (based on Leviticus 17:13).

New Rule: The organization now states that the Bible does not explicitly comment on the use of a person's own blood in medical care. Consequently, whether to allow one's own blood to be removed, stored, and later reinfused is now a matter of personal conscience.
What remains PROHIBITED?
Despite the change for self-donated blood, the following are still generally not allowed:

Allogeneic Transfusions: Accepting blood donated by someone else remains a serious religious offense that can lead to disassociation (shunning).

Primary Components: Whole blood, red cells, white cells, platelets, and plasma from a donor are still strictly off-limits.
What is a "Personal Decision"?
Over the years, the list of "conscience matters" has grown. Individual Witnesses may now choose to accept:

Blood Fractions: Small derivatives like albumin, immunoglobulins, or clotting factors.

In-Circuit Procedures: Processes where blood is kept in a continuous loop outside the body, such as dialysis or heart-lung machines.

Stored Autologous Blood: As mentioned, the 2026 update now includes the storage and reinfusion of one's own blood as a personal choice.
In short, while they haven't "approved transfusions" in the traditional sense (from donors), they have significantly opened the door for medical procedures involving a patient's own blood.
