This week, as part of the annual canvass of the electors, the Electoral Registration Officer will be sending emails to individual electors in households where a valid email address is held. These emails are genuine, so please respond following the instructions in the email.

Curlews are doing badly in Galloway, but we need to know more about these birds.

This year I'm running the first ever survey of breeding curlews in east Galloway (the part in the pic below). If you see/hear curlews in this area between 1st Apr & 15th May, *please* get in touch!

We did it! Our tree has won Tree of the Year 2021 😀

38% of the votes to the @WoodlandTrust initiative went to our tree. 2nd place was a Monterey cypress tree planted on a beach in Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire, Wales, taking 19% of the vote. Well done Saundersfoot.

We are thankful to James and Kirsty Donaldson for donating this 20ft beauty from their garden, and we will make a donation to their chosen charity in gratitude for their generosity.

The Tree is up 🎄

As seems to be the tradition, it was windy and wet at the Christmas Tree went up in the Village. This year will be the last 'cut' tree as we will move to a living tree -- which we hope to have planted early next year.

We are humbled by the support for the famous tree (see previous post).

Here's a fun fact if you like trees: We have planted over 4,600 trees in the village since February 2019. These specimens will make a great contribution to Mother Nature's Lungs

It has been photographed hundreds of time, and painted by many local artists. It has appeared in several calendars too.

It is an honour that "the tree" in Kippford has made it to the shortlist for the @WoodlandTrust UK Tree of the Year 2021. Only ten have made the list and it's now time to vote.

Anyone who visits Kippford will know 'the tree'. It stands proud, stoic, determined, and a little windswept on the shelly beach at the end of Rough Firth. Through the years it has been battered by wind and almost consumed by shells washed up on the beach several years ago

BE PREPARED

Scottish Power are working hard to repair power lines around the village. Several poles and hundreds of meters of cable are down in the woods behind The Anchor, going up the hill to the top of the village. Please avoid going into the forest as it is very dangeros

At some point Scottish Power need to isolate the power to reconnect the new cables. This may be later today (Friday 3rd Dec), or some time tomorrow -- be prepared for a few hours without power. They will try to limit the impact to part of the village but are not sure yet
