Kabushenga’s Thoughts
Mentoring Duty
June 3rd is Uganda Martyrs Day. We take time off work to commemorate a group of young men who had the courage of their convictions and face a cruel death for what they believed. It is called principle. We remember such acts as lessons to those who come after to serve as a guide to the choices they make. Normally there would have been hundreds of pilgrims treating from all corners of this country heading to the Namugongo Shrine. Their own long distance walk to worship is itself a reminder in what sacrifice means. This year, they did not come due to public health considerations. But we had the holiday nonetheless.
I chose that day to make a small personal sacrifice for the benefit of those trying to find their way in life. For the last two years I have been part of a neighborhood running club known as the Mutungo Mad Bus. It has grown into a community of over 50 young people who meet three times a week to run. They spend the better part of everyday going at each other in good natured banter on the WhatsApp group. On Wednesday they came to visit the @RugyeyoFarmLtd to see what I do with my coffee work. It was an opportunity for me to share life’s lessons using the experience and context of the farm.
For starters I make sure they second the better part of the day picking coffee. I want them to understand how tedious that work is. It also requires one to be meticulous and focused. An exercise in doing things one small step at a time. There are no short cuts. You have to pick ripe beans otherwise you end up with poor quality that will lose you money. It will make you extremely tired and test your patience. Yet that is exactly what life is especially in pursuit of success. It is also a collaborative exercise that forces you to work as part of a big team. Team work is the only way we get anything of consequence done. That is how we have built our running clubs and turned some really slow guys into speed machines and long distance running beasts. I also use the occasion to remind them that all of us will only make it if we engage in productive work the old hard way. Only after we had finished the task of picking coffee and learning how wealth is generated, we had lunch. I got them to see that there is no free lunch in life.
For me, it is fulfilling to be able to use this farming experience beyond business. To pass on the privilege of the knowledge that is now a part of me in the process of becoming what I am today. What a joy to be of human value to society.

This meeting this evening in Uganda 🇺🇬 by my judgement is the largest gathering of men in one single place on the continent hosted by @phaneroo
Several thousands of men gathered to hear God's word. Thanks to the visionary leader Apostle Grace Lubega. The work the Spirit is doing through you is phenomenal.
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind.
And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV
Listened to all my favorite songs from him and was in awe, oh wooow, 48 years committed to service of the one who sent him, he lived a fulfilling life….. he is with the angels 🙏🏻
The Doctor, Farmer, YouTuber combination.
In 2018, whilst I worked as a doctor, I decided to look for a side hustle. I was determined to do something outside medicine. I had read how YouTubers could make a fortune, and I considered doing it someday.
I finally settled on starting a chicken farm, and in 2019, I started it after doing loads of patchy research on the Internet.
The beginning was so chaotic for me and after months of chaos, I finally got it figured out. I then decided to document my journey so those who would come after me wouldn't struggle like I did.
This was my opportunity to do YouTube and with my phone, I decided to start sharing a teaching from my experience.
I therefore became the YouTuber Doctor Farmer.
The channel grew well and currently has almost 600,000 subscribers, and huge followings on all social media platforms.
Being on the Internet has not only made me "famous " but has grown my farming businesses exponentially in addition to giving me additional sources of income.
If someone asked me the biggest thing that happened in my financial life, it's not being a doctor, not starting a farm, but choosing to embrace sharing my stories on the Internet.
I find it strange that with all the ability that the Internet has to skyrocket growth, people prefer to use it to abuse others and share obscene stuff, and then complain that they are broke.
2022 when @AdaEhiMoses first came to Uganda, it was my first Christian event to cover, 2 years later she came back, filed too 😍
And behold, the cycle is back 🥹
