Civil rights hero Roy Hackett has died.
He played a major role in the Bristol Bus Boycott in 1963 and overturned a ban on non-white drivers & conductors working on the city's buses.
He was also a founder of St Pauls Carnival.

@DrGregMarsden @N8Decarbo Fantastic blog @DrGregMarsden - highlights the potential for beh change within people's lives. You should get other academics to do their 'auto' biographies and further build the case.
Long-term changes in work and work-related travel paved the way to the adaptations seen during the pandemic. Pro-active policies are needed to grasp the opportunity for deep carbon reductions from transport and improve equity and health outcomes. @welsh_fi @UWE_CTS @UWE_GEM

And I also said even in rural areas there are young people not keen on driving, or able to drive, and we must see what can be done creatively “to connect young people to shared transport, shared ownership and shared lifts, and more efficient public transport services".
@CommonsTrans has not recommended Graduated Drivers Licensing (GDL) is introduced now but DfT gets evidence on the impacts of GDL on social and economic opportunities available to young people. I welcome the call for this evidence @UWE_CTS @UWE_GEM@HealthFdn @sustrans
This morning we have published our report on Road safety: young and novice drivers
Find out more about the report and what we've recommended here: https://t.co/KXTHKLFx6c

It quotes me saying barriers to driving for young people in rural/urban peripheries would not be welcome. But I also said that GDL measures that improve safety of driving would increase confidence to drive and reduce insurance premiums and hence support young people’s mobility.
