Today, I had the pleasure of welcoming stakeholders, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to the PWD Breakfast Forum held at the Kenya Institute of Special Education spearheaded by the Office of the Government Spokesperson in partnership with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Kenya.

KISE and Huawei have come together to make the lives of PWDs not easy, but possible with inclusive tech innovation shedding new light on development and upgrade of assistive devices and technology, in order to improve the quality of life of the users, their treatment and rehabilitation. Alongside others partners, the institutions are launching the Kenya AI for Disability Project aimed at local manufacture and production of these equipment and improved standards of healthcare for PWDs

Dr Norman Kiogora highlighted ongoing efforts, in partnership with Huawei, AT4D, UNESCO and Qhala, including the 2024 AI Hackathon, to develop and scale innovative, inclusive solutions.
He also emphasized KISE’s commitment to locally designing and producing assistive devices using AI and digital technologies ensuring solutions are accessible, affordable and tailored to real needs.
Invited partners included representatives from Huawei, AT4D, UNESCO, Qhala, the Signvrse team and Ministry of ICT. The visit showcased KISE’s holistic model across assessment, rehabilitation, digital learning and assistive device production, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, collaboration and inclusion.

Our discussion focused on strengthening collaboration between KISE and the State Department for Children Services, particularly in enhancing assessment, capacity building, and access to specialized interventions for children with disabilities across the country.
