@PreachthewordVB I would recommend John MacArthur's little book, The Grace of Giving. He gives a concise explanation of OT tithing and good arguments for why it is no longer binding.
Ladies, be aware, your 2027 Valentines Day could be interrupted by men in sports wear because next year's Super Bowl lands on Feb. 14. https://t.co/CiO2PnfhmJ
In 2 Corinthians 6:10 Paul describes his life in ministry "as poor yet making many rich." Ministry demands sacrifice, but how blessed we are to be a channel of spiritual riches for those we serve.
I have loved reading all the tributes to John MacArthur. My heart is refreshed. MacArthur’s greatest impact on me was reading this book in college. It was transformative.
Considering the mess that Samson was, it is striking that Judges 14:4 says, "His father and mother did not know that it was of the Lord, for He was seeking an occasion against the Philistines." God is not limited by a mess; he works through it.
@ryanburge@howertonjosh What are the implications of this for ministry? One seems be that we must call people to an entirely biblical worldview, not a partial one. Christ's lordship has consequences for everything I believe and do.
My parents' generation had man walking on the moon.
When everything changed and anything was possible.
Sure, the moon is cool, but My generation had this
Nehemiah 8 is a preacher's passage. Ezra read the Word and explained the Word. Nehemiah answered conviction with, "Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength." The people "celebrate(d) a great festival, because they understood the words which had been made know."
Running a VBS is a lot of work, and they aren't equally effective in every community. But in many communities like ours, they can be very fruitful and a great rallying point for the church. Don't quit too quickly on VBS. https://t.co/CCthKAlyzZ
Yesterday, I preached my 74th and final sermon on the book of Romans. I can't imagine a much higher privilege in ministry than guiding a local church through this magnificent work. God is good.
Church member, your pastor is glad you don't want to burden him, but he wants you to know God called him to bear them (2 Cor 11:28). Please burden him with the weights he needs to bear in order to serve you and the church well.
If you want to be a lead pastor, be prepared, no matter how hard you try, to hear all the nonsense you don't care to know and to be the last to hear the important stuff you need to know.
