@jdcmedlock I looked into unionizing once. Talked to my local rep. Didn't go through with it. You basically have to be willing to lose your job. And workers feel like they'll get fired just for talking about it. I found that even bringing it up in a casual, off-hand manner got people nervous
@PlexyLuna@washingtonpost Selling your highly processed, definitely not organic, oat cookies at a premium because you're able to slap an "organic" label on it is price gouging. Whole Foods' entire business model is about to go in the toilet.
@jrpsaki Jan 6 was a 3-legged stool: Trump, social media, and the Republican party. If any one of them had refused to participate, the insurrection wouldn't have happened. Yet the committee made it seem like the only but-for factor was Trump. A historic missed opportunity.
@pitchfork Or, better yet, let's stop pretending that we have to choose between things like space exploration and providing a decent standard of living for American citizens. We can do both. We have done both. The Civil Rights Act was passed in the same decade that we sent men to the moon.
@mjones_vandy3@sara_gersen Most people probably feel that way. The backlash isn't about stoves. It's just part of the grift by rw media and politicians. And a third of the country hasn't figured that out yet.
@Oregonian I once had to catch some of these birds in the Lewis and Clark area. Bought a net gun from China. Had to be reloaded after every shot. Was literally running through people's yards, jumping over fences trying to get a clear shot. Took weeks to locate and catch them all.
@rachelmetz@AP Haven't seen anyone recommend Stress Test by Tim Geithner, who you probably are aware was Obama's treasury secretary during the crisis. Great view inside the room.
@emillygprado I feel like the Hoyt arboretum doesn't get enough attention, being right next to the Zoo and rose gardens. It's beautiful, educational, and generally not very busy.
@mtkonczal Are there any studies exploring what "bargaining for higher wages" means today, where the vast majority of private sector workers are not unionized? What does it actually look like? How often does it actually happen? Maybe a lack of leverage by labor is helping keep wages down?
