Hes not even hostile or unlikable - he is mentally unwell and looking for comfort and connection while being ignored and only finding hostility. He is desperate while people refuse to try and help him. He has a full breakdown at the end of the book proving he was neglected
Problem with people reading Catcher in the Rye is they think the words on the page are truthful. People have lost the art of unreliable narrator. Holden is deeply depressed and traumatized so he is lying and joking and pretending while his actions betray him.
Rlly interesting to me how much Catcher in the Rye is about how the experience of rape and grief as a teenager can fundamentally alter your worldview and turn you into a hostile, unlikeable person. Very affecting book.
Good. Break them all. Get them out of your communities cause they made sure not to put them up in rich neighborhoods and one man was threatened with legal action for using a drone to document these rich areas
