🆘🆘 PAPA (ID 260492), 6 YO, MALE – IN QUEENS ACC - came into the shelter as an owner surrender on 8/4/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿

➡️ 38 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT

➡️ PAPA IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥

What my friends at ACC say about me: Papa is known to be independent and likes to be where the people are in a home environment but is very fearful and stressed in the shelter and does not currently tolerate touch. He may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Papa is not open to interaction at this time and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. Because his previous owner reports he enjoys being in rooms where the people are, independent and gives kisses when comfortable in a home environment, we believe the behavior seen in the care center is shelter-specific and this cat would make a great pet, but is really struggling in the shelter environment. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, home with adopters who are willing to work with a cat who needs time and patience to help him adjust to their new home. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

♦️SIX DEVORE CATS EUTHANIZED — WHY WEREN’T THEY GIVEN A FINAL CHANCE?
We confirmed this morning that six cats were euthanized:
💔 #A848659 — VITILIGO
💔 #A849440 — MACARON
💔 #A849719 — BISCOTTI
💔 #A850104 — FANTANA
💔 #A850105 — MIMOSA
💔 #A850107 — SUNNY DEE
What makes this especially concerning:
🏠 Around 10 kennels were still open in the Rescue Only room last night, and as of noon today there had been no new cat intake.
📩More than one volunteer reached out yesterday asking which cats were most urgent. They received only general information.
⚠️ The urgent list had more than 20 cats, but these six were not identified as facing immediate euthanasia.
❓ What is the purpose of an “urgent list” if volunteers cannot tell which cats are about to lose their lives?
❓ Why was no final rescue plea sent before euthanasia?
Animal Care recently said its updated process was intended to maximize every opportunity for rescue and adoption.
So we have one simple question:

🐾 Were these six cats truly given every reasonable opportunity before euthanasia?
📢Please email the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors and ask them to review Devore Animal Shelter’s recent euthanasia practices, urgent-list process, final rescue outreach, and whether animals are being given a meaningful last chance before euthanasia.
