Craftsmanship increasingly seems like something from yesteryear, but every once in a while you meet a modern day craftsman and you fall in love with their artistry.

A couple of years ago, @NeriOxman and I walked into a piano shop across the street from my office and met Sujatri Reisinger who runs a business called Klavierhaus.

Sujatri buys historic Steinways (and other) pianos and renovates them. Not dissimilar from the garage finds in the car world, the old model Steinways are world-class instruments and aesthetic works of art once brought to life by Sujatri and his small team. Remarkably, the price point is materially below that of the equivalent new Steinway, and the instrumentality, beauty, and sound are greatly superior.

I never learned to play the piano, but mom's nightly practice sessions after my bedtime led to my love for the music of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and the other great composers for the piano.

We have purchased two superb pianos from Klavierhaus, and are very happy customers. The business, however, is a labor of love, and Sujatri is not the world's greatest marketer, nor does he have the resources to properly tell his story.
