Godfrey Dorr Professor of Pathology and Assistant Chair of Education @UMichPath 〽️ #hemepath @UMich @UMichMedicine | Co-Author Mia the Marvelous | Views Mine
A little over two years ago, I stood in front of the @LoyolaStritch Class of 2026 as their M2 pathology instructor before heading to Michigan. Last week, I had the profound honor of returning to deliver their commencement address. Full circle in the best possible way.
I spoke to them about curiosity, wonder, resilience. About the bone marrow, of course (I promise it made sense).
I want them to remember that medicine is still sacred work. In a world moving faster and louder every day, I hope they protect the part of themselves that still pauses in awe at the privilege of caring for another human being.
To the Stritch School of Medicine Class of 2026: thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your journey, both then and now. Watching you cross that stage was a privilege I will never forget.
Never stop exploring.

Michigan Democrats are united by these simple ideas: more money in your pockets, health care you can afford, gas in your tank that doesn’t break the bank, a great public school for your kids, and opportunities for the future.
All of us are united in defeating MAGA Republicans in November, who will make life harder and more expensive for every Michigander.

Rob and I hope you enjoy reading this as much as we did writing it.

A great personal statement doesn’t tell programs what you’ve done. It helps them understand who you are, what has shaped you, and why you’ll be the kind of physician they want beside them. We’ll talk about what works, what doesn’t, and how to write something that people will actually remember.
Hope you’ll join me tomorrow at 10:00 AM ET. Let’s write a statement that sounds like you. ✍️ #Match2027 #MedEd #ResidencyMatch #FuturePhysician #PathMatch
When the bone marrow throws a party and only plasma cells RSVP!! Making Thomas Dutcher proud!
Thomas Dutcher was an American pathologist who gave his name to the "Dutcher body." in the original paper "The histopathology of the macroglobulinemia of Waldenström," in the Journal of the NCI by Dutcher & Fahey (1959).

A small update, and a big THANK YOU!
We have several 5⭐️ reviews! One reviewer said she wants to share Mia the Marvelous Lab Explorer with young people in the hope one of them follows her into the field. That is the whole reason Lotte Mulder and I wrote it!
#MissionMarvelous has now raised just over $3,000 to put copies into childhood cancer clinics, hospital libraries, and classrooms. Every dollar came from someone who decided a kid somewhere deserved to understand what was happening inside their own body.
Thank you for carrying this further than we could have.
