@Julie4Virginia@JasonZellman@ssurovell Julie, two things are true: 1) Scott Surovell is an excellent attorney. 2) Judges still rule against his clients when appropriate to make correct rulings.
You know what DOES cause judges to not be reappointed? Consistently being reversed on appeal for making incorrect rulings.
@mudflapp24 Who are you referring to? 🤨 The man speaking is Sen. Rouse… who, as I just referenced, is a Senator. Not part of the Governor’s administration.
The member of the administration at the podium is Secretary of Finance Mark Sickles—who (I hope you’re sitting down) is white.
@gmoomaw When the two other hosts of the event pose with the display and post it to the masses, it sure makes him look complicit. I like Sen. Jones a lot. But it seems like he and some of his colleagues are being used and manipulated for this “tour.”
@teevirus@Jaaavis Not foolish at all. I believe it was a calculated choice, like you said.
I just disagreed w Perry acting surprised/taking offense, that’s all.
An aside: Perry attends events & engages her constituents ROUTINELY, so this “listening tour”wasn’t novel except that Lucas was hosting
@gmoomaw@ssurovell You’re making the point. Your Senate colleague is making things personal. Last I heard, she was calling for your Dem colleagues (in House & Senate) to be primaried if they didn’t agree w/ eliminating the data center tax exemption.
🤨 That’s personal. (And weird.)
@ahr_ii@gmoomaw@thedrmikejones Maybe you’re thin skinned? Not every bill gets a ceremonial signing. It’s a gift for the patron. His promoted “listening tour” + interaction with the Governor would have only distracted from the bill.
It’s a tradeoff. He’s far too smart to not have anticipated it
@Jaaavis I’m a big Perry fan. But we are the company we keep sometimes. She should’ve distanced herself from the disparaging comments being made—by the person headlining the tour—BEFORE she promoted & participated in the tour.
That’s life. I’d be surprised if Perry didn’t anticipate it
@peteymca@Jaaavis@BradKutner Actually sounds like life? Surely they already considered the trade off before voluntarily promoting & participating in events that, at least partially, bash the Governor. Not every bill patron is entitled to a ceremonial signing…?
I think it’s childish to complain about it.
@TylerEnglander@Jaaavis So…. It looks like a new tax. Not eliminating the state retail & sales tax exemption.
The new tax (excuse me, “fee”) is exactly what the data centers were texting about the other day —and Lucas and others called them liars.
@LegislativeAI What is the issue w members of the House meeting with members of the administration? Why not?
More imp, why aren’t Senate members doing the same? Specifically, why aren’t Deeds & Surovell?
First, the GA bitches about the Gov not communicating w/ them enough. Now too much?
@BlackVaNews I hear the concerns & even share in the sentiment.
So, how does eliminating the retail & sales tax credit address children’s (or adults’) health in schools located within a 3-4 mile radius of a data center?
Has Sen. Lucas explained that? (Have you asked?)
@IIJConII@BlackVaNews@pwcdanica@SenLouiseLucas@RussetPerry Listen, NOVA “outsider” Dems didn’t want our districts changed either. Why would we want to split up/“share” our current representation? 🤨 No.
It’s a similar sentiment you have re: silencing your voices.
The OTHER Virginia Dems found value in splitting NOVA Dems.
@NickMinock@SenLouiseLucas@DelegateTorian Lucas hasn’t voted for many of the bills introduced the last 2 years that could have actually regulated data centers. Look it up. Then ask yourself why not?
So… why are you letting her play you? She doesn’t and has not ever given a shit about data centers.
@chasinnova2@oconnor_reports I’m with you on the second part. What Lucas is pushing for is a pathetic bait and switch.
Why would anyone want to invest their business in VA—regardless of the industry? Eliminating the tax exemption early AFTER these companies chose to invest here would be shameful.
@BreRVA@oconnor_reports They move to the next site. (From what I’ve heard, they’ve been very busy and in demand.) But to your point, yes if/when the development eventually slows, so would those construction jobs. It just hasn’t slowed yet!
