@MarinerMuse@MoonlightMLB I'm sure he would, that's not the point. JP does not make the Mariners better in 2027, he makes them worse. And his $10M/yr comes off the books next year, so you have that plus whatever else you allocate to go get a replacement.
@MarinerMuse@MoonlightMLB A serious org moves on from JP, there's no place for him here in 2027. Either find a 3B or move Colt to third and find a SS. JP's not a starter here next year, and can't do any of the things you need from the bench - steal a bag, late inning defense, etc.
@thejagepage 3B looks to be the biggest position of need for 2027 and beyond. Should the Ms consider Colt at 3B and then find a SS (internally or externally) as maybe an easier position to fill?
@MarineLayerPod Dude, you don't have to continue to talk about this, it's a non story except for how much content creators are trying to wring out of it. Making Mt. Everest out of molehills is all it is.
@IISwitchII Easy to nitpick the bullpen management, but not moving a starter (ahem Hancock) to the pen when it’s depleted with injuries is hurting the team.
@IISwitchII I’m proud of you- 2000+ words and I don’t think you mentioned Refsnyder once :). Can’t disagree with anything you said. A lot of this tea’s problems would fade away if the staples would hit just a little better
@RefuseToLosePod Or they go somewhere in the middle, remain in the thick of the AL West race, such as it is, and continue to kick the can down the road making these games basically meaningless. It’s painful to watch, but things could be far worse.
@MarineLayerPod Seems like no one is hitting, but do you think a lineup change (moving Cal down etc) would help, and what are the not only pros but cons of such a move?
@MarinerMuse@ARealFan5 I just doubt the Ms would want to pay a mid leverage bullpen arm $25M next year. You could be right, but I think it's far more likely that Hancock goes to the pen and Luis gets traded, either at the deadline or in the offseason. We'll see.
@MarinerMuse@ARealFan5 You don't think there are teams, contending teams, that would take a shot on Castillo as a starter if the money was worked out? Maybe not, but for sure it's flushed if you put him in the bullpen.
@ARealFan5@MarinerMuse So basically your idea is to reduce Castillo's value (by a lot) by demoting him to the bullpen, and *then* trading him? Sounds like they're not the only ones with dumbfuck plans.
@BenRanieri10 Cal and JP back Tuesday, Colt and Cole producing along with Raley and Dom. Offensively they’re fine (if Randy is relatively short term). Bullpen may be a different story but partially self inflicted
@MarineLayerPod By far the biggest "evidence" of a disgruntled clubhouse is in listening to content creators lol. Wilson, Woodworth, and Dipoto talked it out, communication was restored, and the piggyback is the best of a "bad" (read: very good, too many SP? lol) situation.
@TyDaneGonzalez We saw how Luis reacted (badly) to being taken out, did you want him storming around the clubhouse for days before, too? So funny how ppl were saying “put him in the pen who cares what he thinks” but now it’s all “ oh poor Luis Dan made him mad”
@MarineLayerPod Is Castillo going to like a demotion to the bullpen more? (yeah right) Are any of the 6 starting pitchers going to like a 6 man rotation? (hint: no way) The piggyback is working (with some fine tuning) as well or better as any other option, short of trading a starter
@MarinerMuse@MoonlightMLB Stretching Luis out after being in the bullpen would probably take a month. If Hancock reverts, or if Bryce gets hurt, then you're out a starter for what, 4-5 starts?
