7/ A credible introduction that checks off these three factors- industry, round, and check size, can open the door for you.
Remember, it's not just about getting an intro but getting the 'right' intro.
6/ If possible, always try to secure a lead. This can be a game-changer in your fundraising journey.
Yes, if your company is everything you think it is, investors will commit before a lead. But don't expect a term sheet just yet.
5/ Another factor is ensuring the fund can provide the check size that you need. If they can’t, then it’s simply not the right fit.
Counterpoint - if your round is too small, the intro may not be a good fit. As funds get bigger they need to deploy more capital to hit metrics.
-2/ Quick thread on warm intros...
1st - this doesn't mean we like the idea of warm intros. In fact, generative AI may make the idea of warm intros go out the window.
A lot of the logic is that a fund may see 1,000 deals and invest in 5-10. That's a lot of noise.
4/ You must also ensure that the fund invests at the round you are raising, whether it's Seed, Series A, Series B, etc. This will significantly streamline your process.
It makes sense to begin those upstream relationships early on, but don't expect checks into the round.
3/ The most effective warm introductions are ones that lead you directly to a fund that operates within your industry. This increases your chances of getting to the next step.
When you hit the funds "special spot" they tend to take the meeting
2/ Some founders opt for the ‘shotgun approach’; getting introductions to any and every VC and hoping for continuous referrals. It’s a strategy, but not the best one.
You may get the meeting, but it may not go much further than that.
-1/ Warm intros cut down the noise:signal ratio.
There is simply not enough man hours to authentically review 1,000 deals - which is how you get anti-portfolios.
Anyways...let's talk about the levels to getting a warm intro.
@Brslv We use it for our community and we make an intentional effort to segment sections and channels, so that people are only getting notifications for relevant projects/discussions/etc...
That's helped with the overwhelm of our contributors
Hosting an open town hall to chat about upcoming stuff we're launching for our community: rewards, the office, referrals, new collectives, etc...
Tap in and ask some good questions.

It's always fun to update the bio. Now have over 400 members of our community that builds companies, together.
Crazy that we can launch any idea with 400 team members on day one.
Getting to market becomes a routine exercise of creativity with speed and insights from experts.
We mentioned that one of the collectives launching this week was The Life Company...here's to the start of something interesting...
Join the party and help us build it.
