@KibblesNBits@MZHemingway Where did it say they were illegal aliens? Also they did not lie about their status, but the government put them on voter rolls and invited them to vote. That's the government's fault.
@SenRandPaul This is the only acceptable answer. The text of the 14th is what it is. There is no wiggle room with the "jurisdiction" clause. It was there to protect the children of diplomats. At the time, jus sanguinis was not as common. Diplomats are arguably not within our jurisdiction.
@SenJohnKennedy It's a red herring. The Heritage Foundation has documented a total of 71 votes by non-citizens since 1984. During the same period, 1.3 billion votes have been cast in Presidential elections. The chance of a fraudulent vote is 1 in 5.46 × 10⁸.
@CBSNews Nonsense. Our "socialists" want nothing like Socialism - the economic system in which the means of production are owned by the state. They want capitalism with social guardrails, as practiced by most Western European countries.
@Kevinulmet The SCOTUS decision was not wrong, but we need to enact new legislation to prevent a human disaster. If you have been here for 10+ years, building your life, let's find a path to permanent residency.
@FactBasedBanter I don't understand the rejection of immigrants. They pay taxes and social security benefitting our boomers, they enrich our cuisine, and they work jobs many of us don't want to do. What's the problem?
@PressSec (1) Why do you want that? You don't think they contribute? They pay taxes and SS. You want our baby boomers to run out of SS?
(2) They have been here for decades, built their lives here. Sending them "home" sounds rather cruel.
@Karlnan2025 @NEWSMAX If only it were that easy. You need either family, e.g, an American wife or husband, or sponsorship from an employer to apply for permanent status. It may prove to be a tall order for many of them. The cruelty is that it does not matter how long they have been here.
@ReichlinMelnick The TPS program is explicitly excluded from consideration when applying for permanent status. You need to marry an American or get an employment-based sponsorship to apply. We allowed TPS participants to live here for decades. It is cruel to send them home now.
@dcarroll1976@nicksortor@SecMullinDHS Please provide some evidence for them taking more than they contribute. I think you are totally misinformed here. Most immigrants work hard to make a living. But I will consider your evidence to the contrary.
@afraidofstupid@realBrandonGill continued: The exclusion of diplomats was to exempt them from US citizenship. Without it a child born in the US might lose its citizenship in the parents' home country. Obviously undesirable. Denying a child of Mexican parents US citizenship might render it stateless.
