Exclusive: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet told Reuters that Thai forces were occupying Cambodian territory after fighting last year despite a peace accordbrokered by US President Donald Trump and called on Thailand to allow a joint boundary commission to begin working on their disputed border https://t.co/ecHiIhVFbk
On 1 January 2026, in Oddar Meanchey Province,
Cambodian civilians went to check their homes, which had been taken over by Thai soldiers inside Cambodian territory, far beyond the recognized boundary. When Thai military forces arrived, Cambodian women raised their hands in a respectful gesture (sampeah) and asked for permission to collect some essential belongings. The armed Thai soldiers did not allow Cambodian civilians to use vehicles to transport their belongings and ordered the Cambodian men to leave, before allowing the Cambodian women who owned the houses to enter briefly to collect a small number of remaining items. The Cambodian homeowners stated that most valuable property and household belongings had been stolen by Thai soldiers.

The Thai military not only illegally occupied Cambodian territory and destroyed Cambodian civilians' homes after the ceasefire, but also stole the Cambodian people's property.
