Today, being my son's 10th birthday, I called him into my room. After praying for him, I spent over 30 minutes talking with him.

My wife walked in, and I told her to leave the room because I wanted to speak to my son alone.

I told him many things that I know he will not understand, but I know he won't forget them when he becomes an adult man.

My son remained completely silent throughout. I could see that he was quite uncomfortable, fearing that I was angry with him from the tone of my voice.

It wasn't the usual soft daddy's voice, but a firm one without any high pitch.

I told him to be looking into my eyes as I was speaking and that he should use his two hands to pull his ears.

Finally, I told him that no man would ever wish for him to be better than them, except I, his father.

And that he must make sure that he protects his elder sister and respects his mother.

This is what my late father did to me when I turned 10. By then, I had no mother in sight and received no birthday wishes, love, or care from her.

Anytime I just wish to think about my life, the words of my late father always play in my mind.

They always serve as guides, and quite a lot of them, I have used them to teach here.

It's always easier to remember what you were told or warned not to do as a child than when you're an adult.

Many things my late father said at the time didn't make much sense to me.

But today, they do.

So this is why I chose today to speak with my son in a way I never have before.

Lastly, I told him that he would make mistakes in life, but that I'll always be there to support him, helping him stand up and become a better person.

After I was done, he hugged me and went back to his PS5.

It all make sense now
• They were abducted on a Friday and they were released on a Friday.
