Take-home: mechanosensitive Ca²⁺ signaling through PIEZO1 and TRPM7 regulates MuSC. Many thanks to all co-authors at Univ. of Shizuoka @shizu_kendai and beyond.
This cool video below shows spontaneous Ca²⁺ fluctuations in MuSCs captured by time-lapse imaging.

PIEZO1 also drives migration. It localises to the rear of migrating cells, and Piezo1 or Trpm7 deletion slows MuSC migration ex vivo and in vivo (two-photon intravital imaging).
Fantastic opening day at #HFSPmtg2026!
A full house in Geneva, an inspiring lecture by Erin M. Schuman (2026 HFSP Nakasone Winner), outstanding oral presentations across the life sciences: what a great start to three days of frontier science! 🧪

Dr. Kotaro Hirano of Univ of Shizuoka will give us a lecture on Mechanosensitive ion channels as biophysical sensors in muscle stem cells on Oct 31 at LiMe, Kyoto University.
Come and check it out.
