The genuine (non-propagandistic) "peacefulness" of the Russian populace is less studied than, say, Mars. The primary theory among foreign Russian opposition and relic Western Russophiles is that "the deep Russian people do not support #Putin or the war with #Ukraine." This is a critical mistake. Repressions are said to force them to conceal their real opinions, cheer for missile strikes on Ukrainian cities on social media, and enlist in the army.

We are advised to distrust poll results that show widespread Russian support for the war, as residents of totalitarian states are accustomed to lying to sociologists. This represents a classic misjudgment of modern #Russia.

The illusory possibility that the war is just a "Kremlin project" rather than a product of the imperial thinking inherent to many Russian generations provides convenient arguments for intentional and accidental "devil's advocates." "The people are not guilty—lift the sanctions and open the borders!" they proclaim. Unfortunately, they find an audience in the West.

Events in Kursk or Belgorod provide an opportunity for a real-life test. While Russia's oppressive machine smolders, liberated Russians could greet anti-Putin tanks with flowers, signaling "finally, freedom!" We await such scenes, although their likelihood is already deemed impossible. The lack of an adequate response to counter-war efforts further solidifies our view of a strong, conscious connection between Russians and their government.

Paraphrasing: "We constantly curse Putin, and rightly so. Yet, I must ask: who exactly has signed a million contracts with the Rf Armed Forces and commits thousands of specific crimes?"
