I had a wonderful meeting with the Turkish Head of the Communications Department (information minister), Mr. Fahrettin Altun, in Istanbul on the sidelines. I have conveyed the best wishes of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the President and the First Lady of Turkey and invited the information minister to visit Bangladesh. I have expressed my interest in collaboration with Turkey in terms of exchanges of experiences with regard to media and combating misinformation.

The BNP leaders' release is something I welcome and applaud. I hope they will, in the future, strongly reconsider using violence and arson to further their political goals, which have killed innocent bystanders and law enforcement personnel.

We look forward to having a more positive political discourse and reforms to further strengthen the electoral system before the next national election and beyond.

The BNP should also reevaluate having as their supreme leader a convicted fugitive and someone who was proven to have been involved in the August 21 grenade attack.

We need to go to the root of the problem, make fundamental changes, and find a sustainable solution.

Those who are worried about Bangladesh becoming a one-party state it’s for them:
Instead of going down the path of arson and violence on October 28 and onward, which resulted in the killing of many innocent civilians along with policemen, which led to the arrest of their leaders, had BNP gone into the electoral process, there would be a strong opposition in the parliament. Therefore, those who are raising the issue of Bangladesh not having a strong opposition and becoming a one-party state should blame the BNP and its convicted fugitive leader.

“ No decision can make all stakeholders equally satisfied” a lesson I realised since my academic life as as a student of Strategic Management and Policy, alongside my teaching career in this field. My experience in running some organisations also offered similar lessons. Every stakeholder— directly or indirectly- impacted by a decision can not be equally happy.

Then what are the bedrocks for an appropriate decision making process??? Are there any criteria to describe a decision good or bad ??

Any decision that lays highest priority to larger interest of majority people in general can be regarded as appropriate one. Similar advices and directives also came from our Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of the father of nation.

“ Always put the interest of General people as your top priority. A certain section might try to undermine that objective but never let them win and always stick to the welfare of mass people.

In the past, a barrage of jibes were hurled on raft of policies and good works of government in talk shows. But, later as enquired, I found those who cast these aspersions were not objective, rather spoke on behalf of some vested groups that put other priorities above public welfare. Another certain section of people will pretend to attach much priority on betterment of public but in reality their views were guided by interest of some certain groups.

But of these sections, there are people who criticised policies of government with a genuine intent and exposed loopholes in policies , what we consider as constructive criticisms. We welcome such critics and we consider their views as imperative tool in our quest to serve the nation.

In all aspects, honesty holds the key in decisions to serve the people.

In the wake of Donald Trump’s landslide victory in the Iowa caucuses:

I just heard an analyst on CNN say that the conviction of Donald Trump doesn’t matter to getting him more votes because people simply do not trust the institutions in the USA.

This is a dangerous trend if people start to believe what they believe to be true as opposed to what is actually true.
