The old Yorkshire dialect (often called Broad Yorkshire or Tyke) is a historic regional variety of English rooted heavily in Old English and Old Norse from Anglo-Saxon and Viking settlers. Though a strong accent still exists, it's become very much waterd down in recent times. ⏳️
Many other countries could also do stuff like this if they genuinely gave a crap about their citizens.
People have gotten used to everything being slow and inefficient just because "that's how it is". Despite all the leaps in technology over the decades.
Antik Yunanca’da yaklaşık 1000 kelime hiçbir Hint-Avrupa diline bağlanamıyor.
Labirent. Zeytin. Atina. Athena. Ares. Akhilleus. Odysseus. Korinthos.
“En Yunan” sandığımız birçok şey, Yunanlar Ege’ye gelmeden önce burada konuşulan kayıp bir dilden geliyor.
Hint-Avrupalılar Pontus steplerinden göçerken zeytin, incir, servi, sümbül, deniz gibi şeylerle ilk kez karşılaştı. Kendi dillerinde bunlar yoktu.
• Rastgele telaffuz varyantları: Odysseus ~ Olysseus (Latin Ulixes / Ulysses); labyrinthos ~ Mycenaean daphurinthos
• Aynı anlama gelen çift kelimeler: biri yerli, biri yabancı
• Tekrarlayan ekler: -nth, -ss, -n, -mn
Antik yazarlar “Yunanca olmayan dil” konuşan halklardan bahsediyor. Yazı neredeyse yok. Geriye kelimeler kaldı.
İngilizce’ye kadar ulaşanlar: labyrinth, olive, oil, hyacinth, cypress, thesaurus, basil, tomb, asparagus, narcissus, mint…
Atina’nın adı, zeytinyağı, labirent miti… Kaybolmuş bir Ege halkının sesi hâlâ duruyor.
Diller ölünce tamamen gitmez. Bazen bir şehrin, bir tanrının, bir ağacın adında yaşamaya devam eder.
Peki ya kan? Dil bir katmanı gösteriyor, DNA başka bir katmanı. Modern Yunanlar gerçekten Antik Yunanların torunları mı?

Neither of the the two Cambridge inquiries will apparently address the issue of how someone who plagiarized and faked data came to hold one of the most prestigious academic appointments in the UK.
"A university does not exist to protect the population from dangerous ideas. It exists to separate fact from fiction through the scientific method, and to give us the intellectual tools to deal with reality — even when that reality can sometimes be unsettling."
@Galibot_Bio@OxSoc@cathydevine56@dpxton I am not sure I find it obvious, or what “safety” entails. I would argue the spread (and control) of knowledge trumps personal sensibilities, and that adults should stand -and be held accountable- for what they write, esp if funded publicly.
Mooi!
As someone who wants to keep his academic job until the mortgage is paid off, let me state in no uncertain terms that I stand with the fraud/plagiarist/fabulist+ community.
Academia is a profession that only works if it is grounded in high trust. (Nobody goes around manually checking every single citation in everyone else's work.) But if you erode that trust by relaxing expectations & standards, then academia as a *profession* is itself undermined.
It's not 'racist' you silly man
It's culturalist
Some cultures are kinder and more humane than others
For example, cultures that do not allow female genital
mutilation, child marriage, stoning and beating of women and themurder of people who disagree with them...are superior to cultures that allow these barbaric behaviours
