Manoj Madhusudhanan took a ₹1.86 crore home loan from ICICI Bank.
As collateral, he handed over his original property documents. Every homebuyer does this. You have no choice.
ICICI Bank sent those documents to their storage facility in Hyderabad via courier. Somewhere on that journey — Bangalore to Hyderabad — the documents vanished.
Gone. Originals. Irreplaceable.
When Manoj found out, ICICI Bank had one answer: it was the courier company's fault. Not ours.
He went to the Banking Ombudsman. They told ICICI to publish a public notice about the loss and pay him ₹25,000 for the trouble.
Twenty-five thousand rupees. For losing the original documents to a ₹1.86 crore property.
Manoj sent a legal notice. ICICI denied any mistake.
He went to the NCDRC.
The apex consumer court looked at the facts. The bank had taken custody of the documents. The bank had chosen the courier. The bank could not hand that liability to a third party and walk away.
ICICI Bank — India's second-largest private bank, ₹9 lakh crore in assets — was held liable. Ordered to obtain reconstructed certified copies, issue an indemnity bond, and pay ₹25 lakh in compensation.
One loan. One lost file. One bank that blamed the courier.
Save this — if your bank loses your original property documents, they cannot blame their courier agent. The documents were in their custody. The liability is theirs. File at your district consumer forum. The law is on your side.

Centre Responds to Naveen Patnaik's Complaint; Odisha Grameen Bank Manager Suspended Over Jitu Munda Claim Delay
In a swift response to a complaint raised by Leader of Opposition @Naveen_Odisha , the Ministry of Finance has informed that the claim of a deceased depositor at Odisha Grameen Bank's Malliposi branch in Keonjhar district has been settled, while disciplinary action has been taken against the concerned Branch Manager.
In a letter dated June 12, 2026, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary wrote to Naveen Patnaik, confirming that the account holder's claim amounting to ₹19,402 was settled in favour of Jitu Munda and two legal heirs after necessary documents, including the death certificate and legal heir certificate, were submitted with the help of local administration.
Naveen Patnaik had earlier written to the Union Finance Minister on May 2, 2026, highlighting the alleged hardship faced by the family due to procedural delays at the bank branch.
The Ministry acknowledged that while adherence to banking procedures is essential, such processes must be implemented with "due sensitivity, empathy, and effective communication," especially in rural and tribal areas.
According to the letter, Odisha Grameen Bank (OGB) has suspended the Branch Manager of the Malliposi branch. The bank has also issued an advisory to all its field functionaries to ensure compassionate and transparent customer service.
Furthermore, the Department of Financial Services has issued a directive to all 28 Regional Rural Banks across the country on May 29, 2026, advising them to strengthen citizen-centric banking practices and prevent recurrence of similar incidents, particularly for customers from rural, tribal, and vulnerable sections. #Odisha
Why manager was suspended? Why not the tehsildar or SDM who issues death certificate. It's really shame that instead of rectifying systematic torture and escapegoat is made.

Great to see the guidelines issued on punctuality by the official of @UCOBankOfficial , However we think that official issued the guidelines would have forgotten to mention that consecutive 3 days delay in exit/day end post 1645hrs will amount to 1 day OT by the bank.
@atul1602 I disagree. Probably, except for a few SBI employees, most of them work hard. They are easily contributors to a stable banking system in India.
They cater to the poor and marginalized sections that are barely touched by private banks.

The momentum for #5DaysBanking is growing. Employees have raised the issue for years, and now support is increasingly being echoed by public representatives. The next step is implementation.
@PMOIndia@DFS_India@kanalmedia23
MNC and IT employees in India pay up to 30% income tax for years. Those earning ₹25 lakh a year can pay roughly ₹25–30 lakh in taxes over 5 years.
But after a layoff, they get no meaningful income support or assistance like workers do in many other countries.
The government remembers salaried taxpayers while COLLECTING taxes, but FORGETS them when they lose their jobs.
Hi @UCOBankOfficial,
In timing of bankers comes under discipline and punctuality. Fair enough.
What about the out time?
Lets be punctual there too. Lets go home by 5.15 PM and after that.. those who still work s after 5.15 call them as slow worker.
Why only morning time?
