A Tamil Brahmin Indian girl the world and the people of India forgot.
Every English speaking Jesuit educated Indian know the story of Florence Nightingale but history has no record of Padmavathi Iyer.
In the year 1917, a Tamil Indian girl was born in a middle-class family in Rangoon, Burma, where her father had gone for a living. He named her Sivaramakrishna Iyer Padmavathi.
At a time when women were traditionally confined to the kitchen/illiterate, the middle-class girl did MBBS from Rangoon Medical College.
When the Japanese invaded Burma, they briefly returned to their traditional home in Coimbatore.
In 1949, she went to London to do an FRCP, then unimaginable for a Female Indian doctor. She was selected to study further at Johns Hopkins University, US, where she trained under the legendary cardiologist Helen Taussig.
Thereafter, she moved to Harvard University, where she trained under the Father of Cardiology- Paul Dudley White.
When a glorious cardiology career awaited her in the US, she was firm in returning to India & serving Indians. She joined Lady Hardinge Medical College in 1953, to become India's First Lady Cardiologist.
S.I.Padmavathi started India's first Cathlab & exclusive Cardiac Clinic. Started India's first DM Cardiology course. She founded the All India Heart Foundation (AIHF) in 1962, to serve the poor & needy. She joined Maulana Azad Medical College in 1967, by which time her fame had spread. The Indian Govt under Indira Gandhi honoured her with the Padma Bhushan, that year.
She was the cardiologist & administrator of 3 great colleges at the same time- MAMC, G.B.Pant Hospital & Lok Nayak Hospital. She retired as Director, of MAMC in 1978.
She set up the National Heart Institute (NIH) in 1981, in Delhi. At age 90, Padmavathi became a fellow of The European Society of Cardiology in 2007.
Till age 95, (the year 2015), Padmavathi worked 12 hours a day, five days a week, to serve poor and needy Indians, with state-of-the-art Cardiac Care. She retired from active practice, that year. The Government of India bestowed India's second highest Civilian Award, the Padma Vibushan on S.I.Padmavathi in 1992.
Both Padmavathi and her sister Janaki(neurologist) remained single and started the Janaki-Padmavathi trust, pouring in their entire earnings to start a trust to provide poor people with money for life-saving Heart Surgeries.
After dedicating her entire life to serving the poor in the field of Cardiology, S.I.Padmavathi passed away in 2020, at age 103 from Corona.
Imagine the steely resolve, vision, brilliance and sheer determination of this iron- lady to shatter the glass ceiling in achieving all these, serving poor Indians with quality cardiac care, and finally giving away all her wealth to her fellow citizens.
Here is an inspiring story of the first female cardiologist of India 🙏
Some years ago, an online interfaith event was organized by a Christian pastor on the theme of art in different religions. I was asked to present on Hinduism while others spoke on Christianity & Buddhism. When my turn came, I spoke about the iconography of Ardhnarishwara. I explained the Hindu (Shaiva-Shakta) understanding of the inseparable nature of the divine feminine and masculine; the composite of dynamism and stillness. I briefly refered to how the Hindu understanding of the Divine Feminine was at complete variance from the Male God principle of Christianity and other Abrahamic religions. As I showed slide after slide of Ardhanarishwara sculptures and paintings, I also showed my necklace pendant with Ardhnarishwara that I wore on the day. The audience was visibly affected, especially the women, and one of them said "This is so modern! I had no idea this existed in Hinduism". After the speeches, the participants were asked to go into different breakout rooms to discuss the points made. The keynote speakers were supposed to stay in the main room. However, I quickly jumped into one of the breakout rooms (to the shock of the pastor who was the moderator) and found the members were all discussing my presentation. They were astonished to see me there and started asking me questions about Hinduism and India. I had fun answering them. One Jew said he felt very repelled by the idea of idol worship. I asked him why, and whether it could be because of brainwashing from childhood. As I was explaining about murti puja, suddenly the pastor crashed into the room and requested me to return to the main room. It almost felt as if he was nervous that I would convert them to Hinduism 😂😂😂. Finally, when everyone came back to the main room, they said they did not have enough time to discuss Buddhism or Christianity because they were so fascinated by the Ardhanarishwara concept. Just a 15 mins talk by me on Ardhnarishwara had fired their imagination so much! I remembered what @RajivMessage ji had once said about how easily all the yoga and meditation gurus who came to America in the last 100 years could have converted people to Hinduism. They had an absolutely mesmerized audience but chose to adopt the classic Hindu worldview of pluralism and a distaste for proselytization. It has only worked to our detriment. Our generosity and kindness did not win us any brownie points; it only paved the way for erasing Hindu contributions to knowledge.
Respectable Tejasvi ji, I've a traffic business model which will ease traffic forever...its a building block of simple logic.. will help in looking at optimizing infra budgets and not a continuous-burden. Happy to present to you.. my email is [email protected]

The traffic scene in Bengaluru is getting more distressing every passing day. Even Sundays, which used to be relatively easier, is becoming as nightmarish as the weekdays.
Everyday, we are adding thousands of new private vehicles onto the roads which is only adding to the problem. Even running errands from neighbourhood stores takes so much time. The city roads, including the small lanes in residential areas, are way beyond its carrying capacity, and there is no space to make more roads. Anyway, more roads mean more private vehicles.
Clearly, we are not doing enough to reduce the number of private vehicles on road and increase the public transport options. BMTC is crowded. Metro, during peak hours, is so packed that you feel suffocated. The high charging Uber Ola taxis are not reliable and take forever to even turn up at your location. Autorickshaws simply cancel rides on you. Our footpaths are not pedestrian friendly, and in most places are encroached by hawkers. The condition of the roads across the city is pathetic, with potholes and unscientific humps. BBMP and its officials turn a blind eye to all the commercial developments in residential areas, further adding to the traffic density. In short, the quality of life is getting worse everyday.
Successive governments in the State, across parties, have failed to provide our wonderful city the vision and leadership that it deserves.
Something drastic has to be done to address this. And it needs to be done NOW, with warlike urgency. We need to experiment with out-of-the-box solutions like the odd-even model or the Singapore model of limiting the number of cars or anything radical that works in the short term. In the long term, we need to double down on our investments and urgency on public transportation and drastically reduce private vehicles. Each person owing a private vehicle model will simply not work for a densely populated country like ours.
The city is crying out for help. Our people, especially the middle class, needs us to act to improve their quality of life. We are spending more time in mind numbing traffic than with our family and loved ones.
I urge the Hon. DCM @DKShivakumar who is also the Bengaluru Incharge Minister to call for an urgent meeting with the elected representatives and traffic management experts and discuss solutions that we can unanimously push forward.
I will continue to follow this up with the powers that be till we find a solution for this. SINCERELY hope, we can keep party politics aside and help our city.
Tipping is such a scam in New York!💀
Why do I pay extra just because restaurants pay minimum hourly wages?
Ordered a crepe, club sandwich and Panini for $45(Rs. 3800).
We paid $50 cash and the waiter just took the rest as tip.
I asked for change and she said "you have to pay the tip" and went away.
I asked "is it mandatory?" and she just ignored me.
And my friend(a local) felt guilty for not paying atleast 20% tip!
20% for what?
INSANE!🤯
Ego
We broke Modi's ego by not voting for BJP in Bengal, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
This is not the first time we have done this; similarly, we have broken the ego of many big personalities by not supporting them in the past.
A long time ago, the ego of the Hindu king Dahir of Sindh was shattered by the Hindu kings of then Afghanistan and Rajasthan. Dahir wrote for help, but no one came. Dahir had a lot of ego about his valor and was killed. Now, it is a different matter that after that, the continuous decline of Hindus started in Sindh, and today Afghanistan is a completely Islamic nation.
In the same way, we broke the ego of Prithviraj Chauhan by not supporting him during Mohammad Ghori's invasion.
The people of Mewar also had a lot of ego about their bravery. When Khilji surrounded Mewar, no one from the entire Rajputana supported them, Rawal Ratan was killed by deceit, and Padmavati had to commit jauhar with 16,000 women. Padmavati also had a lot of ego about her beauty, which was shattered.
When Rana Sanga had captured Lodhi, the dacoit Babur was called to break their ego. In the battle, no one supported Rana Sanga, and his general was killed along with thirty thousand soldiers.
Sanga's ego was shattered. But the Lodhis had to endure the Mughal slavery, temples were destroyed, women were looted by the Mughals, but Sanga's ego was shattered.
The Marathas were very powerful; they had decimated the Mughals. They also had a lot of ego. When the Mughals were defeated, Abdali was called from Afghanistan to stop the infidels, and armies were set up in the battlefield of Panipat.
Abdali's army kept receiving supplies, but no one sent supplies to the Marathas, as their ego had to be shattered.
The Marathas kept fighting on empty stomachs, kept dying, and were defeated.
There is no house in Maharashtra where a son wasn't martyred, but the ego was shattered.
Countless times, we have shattered the egos of our own by not supporting them at the right time, and we will remove Modi from power as well. Even if we have to take help from the Goris, Mughals, Abdalis, or even Italy, Pakistan, and mortgage the country in their hands...
We will break Modi's ego, and in the future, we will break Yogi Ji's ego too.
Because we are only fit to live under the slavery of foreigners, non-believers, leftists, etc.
Remember, we also broke Atal Ji's ego and then endured ten years of suffering, but we are habitual of forgetting...
We will break Modi's ego.
Jai Hind

Was planning to go to Maldives for my birthday which falls on 2nd of feb. Had almost finalised the deal with my travel agent (adding proofs below👇)
But immediately cancelled it after seeing this tweet of deputy minister of Maldives. #boycottmaldives
In April, @BJP4TamilNadu levelled a charge that TN CM Thiru @mkstalin had received a kickback of 200 Crore Rupees for favouring a metro contract during the previous DMK regime.
It seems like TN CM is afraid that CBI will knock at his door soon and has today taken an extraordinary measure in the curtailing entry of CBI in TN without the permission of the State Government.
