PSA: A text is not inherently "decodable." Decodability is a property of the text ⭐️in relation to the reader⭐️. So, e.g., for a child who has learned the alphabet, sh, and "for," the page below is 100% decodable, but for a child who has only learned the alphabet, it's only 40%.

I was saying "do you have any questions?" I switched to "what questions do you have?" It made a difference. Today I tried "ask me two questions." And they did! And those ?s lead to more ?s. It amazes me that the littlest things have such a big impact!

I just witnessed a teacher getting excited about a mistake.
Why?
She saw it as a teachable moment! And she ran with it! This fired me up! There are teachable moments all around us... if we just take the time to notice them... and capitalize on them.
When looking over reading logs I always ask students about their book. I got the best answer a student could give today: “It’s the best book I’ve ever read!” I love when students get excited about reading in my @READ180 class👍👍#lcmscougarstrong#literacy#edchat#proudteacher
