@historyinmemes This is still how buildings and houses are built in New Orleans. Long pilings are driven into the bedrock. The subsidence is what has caused problems here, but so long as the pilings stay buried, they do not rot.
@mariecfazio Please make correction @NOLAnews, it’s not Int’l School of Louisiana closing, it’s Intl High School of New Orleans. DIFFERENT CHARTERS. IHSNO is a failing school that has long benefitted from the similar name to ISL, a highly successful immersion charter.
@1A it’s not the only thing that’s changed since Normandy. Biden’s son was convicted of a charge that has never gone to trial before, he dropped out of the race, his opponent will issue baseless pardons and pursue unjust attacks. Unfortunately it still sets a terrible precedent.
@JonahDispatch great piece about the exhausted majority. A campaign slogan “let’s get something done” could gain traction if it was unapologetic in its pragmatism. We need the exhausted majority to vote in the primaries if we want to stop extremists from dominating every ticket.
@MavCityMusic you’re in New Orleans and you’re gonna call out Baton Rouge and Lafayette?! We’re fightin the good fight in the darkest city in America, give some respect to the locals!
Looking at cat and ET memes as I wait for a hurricane, it had actually slipped my mind until I saw this. Thank you for the reminder.
When I see pictures of tragedy
Don’t let it get old to me
@JenishaWatts thank you for your essay. Too many people in Nola have similar experiences, so much brokenness and lovelessness here across racial and social lines. It’s easy to turn away. But I can see & give respect & kindness where I am able. I am reminded not to look away.
"Technology itself is neither good nor bad," writes @KristiNorthup about the use of multitracks in worship. "It’s just a matter of finding what works without sacrificing the things that are most important."

@SenBillCassidy many thanks to you & your staff for an awesome tour of the Capitol & White House. My kids’ eyes are wide with wonder! Also thankful for your ongoing courage to make truthful statements and pragmatic progress. Praying for you always, for wisdom, courage & favor.
@RTMannJr Our church buildings in Greater NO were dropped and uninsurable. We went from $27K/yr to $87K/yr to add wind through LA Citizens. It’s killing us. Nola is the largest city in the top ten US cities w/ loss of population. There won’t be any drag queens or anyone else left w/o help.
@EWErickson You don’t even know your own history. This change was instituted in the #SBC in 2000: prohibiting “women, gays and lesbians.” The conversation on the floor revolved around homosexuality, but the real change has been the unscriptural punishment of women. @AG_USA
@timkellernyc I was greatly encouraged by your recent article in @TheAtlantic. Righteousness and justice. I had forgotten about that biblical ideal amidst all the change in the world of Christianity around us. We’re going to continue pursuing that @scc_nola. Thank you.
"When people who have been attending church for years seem uninterested in connecting with God through worship, the missing element might be just discipleship," writes @kristinorthup in the current issue of Influence.

@bethfelkerjones “From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.”
No matter how hard we try we cannot accomplish justice in this life. The finality of eternity is a comfort to me. This truth is what makes his forgiveness so powerful.
