First grade teacher at Indian Creek Elementary School in Olathe, Kansas, Royals fan and proud mom of two awesome kids.

🦆 Indian Creek Elementary School first grade students' ducklings have hatched! As part of their science unit on Structure, Function, and Information Processing, students explore patterns in the behavior of parents and offspring through texts, media, and hands-on experiences.

📝 First grade teacher Mrs. Howell shared that this has been a “great springboard for writing,” inspiring students to create narratives, opinion pieces, informational texts, and more. After hatching chicks in the fall, the students are now comparing and contrasting their findings with the newly hatched ducks.

🥚 The eggs are provided by the family farm of one of Indian Creek’s ELL teachers, and once the unit ends, the chicks and ducklings return to the farm, then photo updates sent so the students can watch the animals grow and change over time. #OPSMakeTodayCount
