An innovation on Hollis Scarborough's Reading Rope. Adocates for explicit, systematic & structured phonics understand the many strands that are woven into skilled reading, but also the need to ensure that decoding skills become increasingly automatic, freeing up cognition
Our ambition is to ensure every child from any background can read fluently.
Studies show children learning by the phonics method are two years ahead of their peers.
We’ll put high quality phonics at heart of teaching children to read.

@jdtdobson@PamelaSnow2@buckingham_j As an educator, lots of people questioned why I didn’t teach my own chn to learn to read b/f school. Parents experience unnecessary competitive pressure. My younger son was Dux of yr 12 and received almost a perfect ATAR, even though he certainly did not enter school reading. (2)
@jdtdobson@PamelaSnow2@buckingham_j Unless young children present with certain vulnerabilities, I see little value in ‘hot housing’ kids to read early. If all the foundation skills are laid down prior to school, then with good instruction most children will become skilled readers and enjoy reading. (1)
