The media is doing the job of the State of CA (thank you CBS) and uncovering hospice fraud. The findings:
-Los Angeles County is ground zero in the nation for hospice fraud.
-Since 2010, LA County has seen a 1500% increase in hospice companies which is more than 6x the national average relative to its elderly population.
-About 42% of all the hospice companies in LA County have red flags for fraud.
-89 hospice companies are operating in one building in Van Nuys.
-When many of these companies were called, phone numbers don’t work, are disconnected, they go straight to voice mail, or no voice mail is set up.
-A single person was listed as the “medical director” in 45 separate hospice companies in LA County.
Bonta - “So to the citizens that remain frustrated, I understand, I share in your frustration.” Glad he shares in our frustrations. Maybe prosecute wrongdoers. Just saying.
Fraud hurts all of us especially working families. Sadly - our state, county and city “leaders” continue to fail in actually leading and always operate in a reactive instead of proactive approach. Do better.

Hard news has always been my first love, but since studying at USC, I’ve been exploring other areas of journalism. I’m so excited to be adding to my repertoire. Stories that I have been working on as of late have been so eye-opening and have shown me that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. Thank you all for continuing to join me on this cathartic journey! So much has happened in four years and I’m really proud of all of it. #news #usc #journalism #broadcast

This is where I took my first steps, spoke my first words. Losing it is the worst pain I’ve felt—second to losing my 58 yr old dad just 3 years ago. He built it in 1988. With little time, I saved some tapes & albums. Not all, but some. 💔 @KNXNews#EatonCanyonFire#EatonFires
