This is the stuff that really conveys Kojima’s understanding of ludonarrative in gaming, imo. What he did to utilize the tropes of nostalgia, returning characters, and memories to effectively tell a story ABOUT those things is pretty awesome.
MGS4 had themes of being stuck in the past while the world moves on despite you. You’ll notice the flashbacks don’t really give you much information, but are more of a vibe… it’s especially poignant that nothing from previous games is graphically updated. It evokes a feeling of pure nostalgia in the traditional sense: bittersweet memories. It is not just about the characters’ past experiences, but our own. Like Snake, WE are older. WE live in a world where MGS1 is considered antiquated, and MGS4 introduces more modern gaming elements. To see little faded glimpses into the past, OUR past, we’re reminded of how important and precious this all felt, but also how far away it is, and how far we’ve come. It gives really profound context to the fact that despite how advanced everything has gotten, you’re just a pathetic old man fighting the same fight you always have.
I'm building a totally open source, anything to anything controller/controller adapter firmware platform.
I believe gamers should be able to use whatever controller they want, wherever they want.
Bluetooth.. USB.. retro.. modern.. EVERYTHING!

After 2 years, the Yakuza 5 Co-op: Intertwined Fates is finally out! Quite possibly my most ambitious mod yet, even more than the Like a Brawler mods! Looking forward to making more of these in the future.
