In IISD’s latest edition of Trade and Industrial Review, SAWTEE’s Paras Kharel, Dikshya Singh, and Kshitiz Dahal examine the challenges facing Nepal’s textiles and clothing sector and outline the policy shifts needed to maintain its competitiveness, as the country approaches least developed country graduation. Despite structural constraints and growing competition, Nepal’s garment and carpet industries continue to be key exports in the global market.

SAWTEE has published a study on Nepal-Bangladesh merchandise trade. Authored by Kshitiz Dahal, Senior Research Officer, SAWTEE, and Paras Kharel, Executive director, SAWTEE, this paper identifies Nepali products with substantial export potential in the Bangladeshi market; uncovers barriers—notably tariffs and para-tariffs, but also other non-tariff barriers—impeding Nepal's exports to Bangladesh; and recommends measures to alleviate trade impediments, including by briefly assessing the potential and challenges of a Nepal–Bangladesh preferential trade agreement.
