@NewsHour This is very misleading! The experts interviewed are talking about scores on the NAEP- a test only a sample of students take. Most states have other measures in place. Many kids know the NAEP doesn’t “count,” and they save their energy for state/local tests that do count
@MyriamCarlier@MotherJones I was 100% sure I was a woman who was into men when I was 16. In many religions/cultures, religious decisions are made well before 16. At 16, one can drive a car, work a job, and be tried as an adult for certain crimes. Why is it so hard to imagine?
@MotherJones The idea that a private, for-profit business can take a person’s property through imminent domain laws should be disturbing for us all. The Tarbuttons are a wealthy family with a lot of power. The people of Sparta will need help to stand up to these folks
@MotherJones Interesting article, but it bothers me to see BF Skinner’s work misrepresented. Just as Bandura built on Skinner’s work, this new guy builds on their work and the work of others. To be successful, educators need to see this as growth, not as the next bandwagon
@aintscarylarry@rjpowers77 Pastors aren’t exempt from income tax, and the vast majority of churches are small congregations that are barely hanging on financially while trying to do all they can to help their communities
@masonmennenga I spent my formative years in the Christian Scientist Church dabbled in Catholicism as a teen, and settled on UMC as an adult as a compromise w/my baptist 1st husband. Divorced. Remarried a UMC pastor (while not attending any church). I credit Oprah- you go to heaven, and you…
@Jacquel6176@CupcakesForYou7@Rebecca11654923@Its_A_GOP_COUP I’m United Methodist, which has a tradition of evangelism (spreading the good news of Christ), but I’m not an Evangelical. Most UMs don’t believe in strict interpretation of the Bible. We are guided by scripture, tradition, reason, and experience.
@Jacquel6176@CupcakesForYou7@Rebecca11654923@Its_A_GOP_COUP Evangelicals are a movement/group who believe in literal interpretation of the Bible where women and sexuality are concerned. Southern Baptists subscribe to those beliefs. Not all Baptists are Southern Baptists, and not all evangelicals are Evangelicals. It’s complicated
@spaceandtime66@AP If you read the article, you would see that it’s actually teachers who are calling for tougher discipline. There’s a national teacher shortage made worse by the constant scapegoating of educators
@BethMooreLPM@BaptistNetwork They just spelled out their vile opinions for everyone to see!!! In a strange way, that report provides clear evidence for why enrollment in SBC is declining. Hate just doesn’t sell to this younger crowd
@Vico05060609 @jadeys1986@BishopChalloner Just checked the dictionary. Racism still means the same thing. What we in this country seem to be losing is the ability or willingness to recognize it and address it
I mean, I just don’t think we’re going to stand before God on the great day & hear him say, you did such a fabulous job of publicly humiliating heretics. Those pictures were hilarious! Those quotes were the perfect burn! Get in here & let me hug your neck & hang a medal on it.
@PedroForPrez@mmpadellan You are a lifesaver!! I hadn’t noticed this change. Suddenly almost all I was seeing was crazy conspiracy stuff and videos of teenage boys hitting girls
Why does Twitter think I’d like a tweet about putting that awful person back in the WH? Also, I’m seeing a lot of public service ads about me giving up smoking. I’ve never taken even a puff in my life! Is the algorithm broken? After all these years, it’s like it’s never met me
