The way they ended this scene is honestly heartbreaking because MJ doesn’t just hear that Peter is lonely, she finally gets to feel it.

She has just read his letter, told him she doesn’t love him, and yet Peter still swings her home. He doesn’t argue. He doesn’t try to convince her. He doesn’t make her feel guilty. He just quietly takes her where she needs to go, even though she’s probably the person he wants beside him more than anyone.

And that’s what makes the scene hurt.

She doesn’t have to remember loving him to realize that this guy is carrying something incredibly heavy.

That’s why this scene hits every time. Peter gets MJ home safely… and then he has to leave her behind all over again.
