"Without the night shift, there is no morning."
Late Thursday night, I canvassed the taxi line at LaGuardia — and caught up with some old friends from @NYTWA.
Taxis have been paying taxes to MTA since 2009 - even during COVID & yrs of crisis when cabbies were earning below $10/hr. @MTA can stop the vicious cycle. Trips still down 50% & 40% medallions are in storage. Exempt taxis from a 3rd #congestionpricing tax. #TaxTheRichNotThePoor
@GovKathyHochul stand up for drivers! Hundreds still owe $450K in medallion debt, some as high as $800K! Don't condemn families to lifetime debt & poverty! Stand with @FundTransitNow & 25+ electeds & economists who all support a taxi exemption! No More On Drivers' Backs!
MTA admits given there are only 7K active cabs & a tax would devastate that #, MTA would make little money from a tax but taxis would collapse.
Denying an exemption would not be about revenue, but cowardice that consciously, eyes-wide-open sells out a beleaguered workforce.
Shame on @MTA for suggesting a 3rd tax on taxi fares when number of trips is still HALF vs. pre-COVID and 40% of taxis are not even back on the road yet. Taxis have paid their share to MTA since 2009 & drivers simply WILL NOT SURVIVE MORE LOSS OF TRIPS!
Get ready to step back in time with our newest Nostalgia Ride: Redbirds and Bluebirds Take Flight! Join us on Saturday, November 4th as we celebrate the iconic cars that once ruled the NYC Subway system.
To mark 20 years since the Redbird’s retirement and 60 years since the Bluebirds entered service, this train made up of both car liveries will take a celebratory round-trip ride starting and ending at the historic Old South Ferry station.
Before the vintage train ride, take photos of the train on the platform and check out details like original mosaics and terracotta artwork from this 1905 station, closed to the public since 2017. The 90-to-100-minute ride will go up the 4/5/6 line to the 2/5 line in the Bronx. The train will then turn around in the 239th Street Yard and Maintenance Shop for a special behind-the-scenes view from the train windows before heading back downtown to Old South Ferry station.
Museum members, you're in luck! Tickets will be available for you starting Thursday, September 14th at 10am EDT. For the rest of our subway enthusiasts, tickets go on sale to the public at 10am EDT on Friday, September 15th.

🌶️Opinion: what will be the outcome of the car market 5 years from now? I honestly don’t see how the average working age person is affording new vehicles without making unsustainable financial decisions.
BREAKING: we sued to stop @NYCtaxi from implementing its disastrous and unlawful plan to flood outer borough streets with 2,500 more vehicles & drive down incomes for our Uber, Lyft, yellow, and green cab members.
@Reynoso626 When I kid I remember a livery cab have to buy a special radio (which was expensive)and affiliate with a base to get a TLC plate (or at the time livery plate).
@Reynoso626 I'm sorry, the city really messed this up. I really like to green cab program, you guys were supposed to be like The Medallion but instead the city flood the street with 100,000 of Uber and Lyft vehicles with little to no barrier of entry.
