I consider myself deeply patriotic about India.
I tear up even when I sing the National anthem before a movie at a theater, every time I hear Vande Mataram or Yeh Jo Des Hai Mera.

I try to pay taxes as honestly as possible, see it as a duty that will help the country.
Sponsor education of 7 underpreviledged girl kids.
I see myself as a good human being (pretty sure everyone else also does)
My late father was a big Vajpayee supporter.
I am a floating voter.
Voted for Vajpayee twice, once MMS over Advani, twice Modi
So in National elections 4 out of 5 for BJP.
In State elections however I have voted all 5 times for Congress/NCP.

In 2014 I thought Modi was the best bet for India.
By 2019 I had become disillusioned by Modi, turning point was demonetization, appointment of Yogi Adityanath as UP CM.
Was determined not to vote for the first time. But last moment still voted for Modi. Maybe it was peer pressure, or Sri Lanka blasts took place couple of days before voting and I thought voting Congress would bring back such days for Mumbai.
2019 was basically a hold your nose and vote, it was purely an Islamophobic vote, now that I look back.

In 2024 now howver I think Rahul Gandhi is the best hope in taking India forward.

Modi's top 3 achievements
1. Good infrastructure push
2. Digitalisation
3. Removing 370 and placing J&K under Governor rule (that daily mindfuck of bandhs and stone pelting in the news, listening to Hurriyat leaders on TV, visiting parties at Pakistan high Commission is over)

Modi's top failures
1. India's social fabric is in tatters. Minorities are being humiliated and discriminated daily, no longer feel a part of India's success.
2. Manufacturing/Make in India/Atmanirbhar is a big flop
3. Taxation has become high and strict (high tax compliance is good thing) so everyone is paying at least double or triple from 2014 .. but there is no corresponding increase in quality of public services. Interest rates are high so loans and EMIs are exorbitant.

I see hope in Rahul Gandhi.
(Am concerned about his anti industry image, ability to handle a coalition of people like Kejriwal, Mamata, Nitish)
However he has matured and grown over the years.
Has shown his ability to work hard in the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
He was always a compassionate and decent, classy human being.
His words are now measured and he is not afraid to face the press.
And he can appointment competent people like Kharge, Baghel, Siddaramiah and doesn't mind taking the backseat.

So my vote in 2024 is a vote of disappointment in Modiji's performance .. as well as for a humane empathetic India under Rahul Gandhi

India is a country of multiple cultures, religions, languages, ethnicities.
Composite culture and pluralism should be made our area of strength .. not weakness .
