Thank you to the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India for ensuring the enforcement and nationwide roll-out of the Judicial Sensitivity Guidelines across the justice system, from the police station to the courtroom.

This builds directly on our 2025 intervention before the Hon’ble Supreme Court against the Allahabad High Court judgment in a child sexual abuse case, where we sought not only justice for one child, but systemic safeguards against insensitive and victim-blaming approaches across the justice system.

I once again congratulate Senior Advocate H.S. Phoolka ji, General Counsel Rachna Tyagi, the entire #JustRightsforChildren legal team and our partners for this landmark achievement. On #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour, we must recognise that #ChildLabour and #ChildTrafficking are not separate crises. Trafficking is a continuum of exploitation that begins with recruitment, deception and movement. Child labour is one of the many points where that exploitation becomes visible. Recent cases in #Baruipur, #Malda and other parts of #WestBengal show why fast, functioning justice systems for children are urgently needed. I call on Chief Minister and Law Minister-in-Charge Shri Suvendu Adhikari ji (@SuvenduWB), and Minister of State for Law Shri @iBirajBiswas ji, to urgently operationalise all sanctioned Fast Track Special Courts (#FTSCs) in West Bengal, fully staffed with judges, prosecutors, forensic support and child-friendly infrastructure. FTSCs dispose of rape and POCSO cases far faster than regular courts, and reduce the time survivors wait for justice.

West Bengal must adopt a clear Children First, Justice First agenda, with time-bound trials, accountable institutions and firm enforcement of the rule of law. @JustRightsIndia

Congratulations to Senior Advocate @hsphoolka ji and @JustRightsIndia General Counsel Rachna Tyagi and team on this landmark achievement towards institutionalising a victim-first justice system for children.

I welcome the Hon'ble Supreme Court's approval of the National Judicial Academy's Guidelines and its direction for their nationwide circulation across the judiciary, prosecution, law enforcement, State Legal Services Authorities, Law Departments and legal education institutions.

The approved guidelines mandate child-sensitive procedures, support persons, time-bound trials, protection from confrontation with the accused, trauma-informed support and dignified, child-sensitive language. They reaffirm that judicial decision-making must be guided by facts, evidence and constitutional values, not stereotypes, victim-blaming or moral judgments.

By extending these principles from the filing of FIRs and chargesheets to the courtroom, the Hon'ble Supreme Court has taken an important step towards a justice system that upholds dignity, accountability and justice at every stage of the process.

It was a conversation that matters more than most: how do we move from the promise we made through the #ruleoflaw, to the promise we keep through the #ruleofjustice for every child. A law that exists only on paper protects no one. It is only real when it reaches the child it was written for, in time. That is the work ahead of all of us. We express our gratitude to @SuvenduWB, Uttar Dinajpur Police (@WBPolice), and JRC's partner organisations, Association for Voluntary Action (@protectwithAVA), and Koshi Lok Manch (@CAMPAIGNS_KLM), along with the entire rescue team, for their swift and coordinated action.

In a joint rescue in Islampur, 20 girls, including 17 minors aged between 12 and 16 years, were rescued from commercial sexual exploitation. Four traffickers and two customers have been detained, marking another important step towards dismantling organised trafficking networks.

Every child rescued is a step closer to a future free from exploitation, abuse, and violence.

Traffickers are not invincible. The operation to rescue 17 girls from sexual exploitation in West Bengal has shown that it is possible to stop those who prey on children through political will, #responsivepolicing and #responsiblecommunities. We are deeply grateful to @SuvenduWB, Uttar Dinajpur Police, our @JustRightsIndia partners Association for Voluntary Action and Kosi Lok Manch, and everyone involved in the rescue.

Rescue, however, is just the beginning. Those responsible must be tried in fast-track courts to create deterrence and survivors must be provided compensation and rehabilitation.
