Dangote Refinery's IPO opened today and honestly, it exposed something Nigeria's capital market can't keep ignoring.
@cowrywise , @investbamboo , @iinvestng and a few other fintech and investment apps crashed under the demand. Meanwhile @cardinalstone ‘s CS Alpha ,the platform i also use held up fine with no crash.
@hisanigeria also handled the traffic well from what I've seen, almost nobody had issues getting their trades through there either. Others ran into issues with a couple of other platforms today too, so this wasn't only a fintech problem.
This can't be brushed off as a one-off. In mature, high-liquidity markets which Nigeria is clearly working towards becoming one,you simply cannot afford minutes or hours of platform downtime. In those markets, that kind of delay can decide whether you get the price you wanted, whether you get into a position in time, or whether you get out before a major event moves against you. As Nigeria's market matures and moves faster, this level of reliability stops being optional.
These apps are also where a lot of people keep their savings. So when they crash, it's not just "annoying" people are literally locked out of their own money when they might need it most. Today my main goal opening bamboo was to withdraw money but I can’t.
And here's the number that makes this sting more: Nigeria has about 6 million registered CSCS accounts, but only around 10% (roughly 600,000) are actually active. In a country of 250 million people, with well over 100 million already using mobile/internet banking, that gap between "banked" and "actually investing" is huge. If we're serious about closing it, platforms crashing under real demand is exactly the wrong look.
Yes, this is the first time Nigeria has seen an offer this big, so some strain was maybe expected. But "first time" isn't an excuse this should've been anticipated and prepared for, not something we're learning the hard way in real time.
Dangote Refinery won't be the last mega-listing on NGX. Fintechs and traditional stockbrokers both need to take this seriously and build for the next big one whether that's another Dangote-linked offer or any other major private company going public. Reliability under pressure needs to be the baseline, not a pleasant surprise.
To be clear I'm not endorsing the platforms I mentioned as holding up well today, and I'm not dragging the ones that had issues either. This isn't about any single platform, it's a general call for better efficiency and reliability across the board.
If you experienced bad service on any platform today, please be patient but also don't stay quiet about it. Write to your broker or fintech's customer support and let them know exactly what happened and how it affected you. And if you can, get others who had the same experience to do the same. The more people who formally flag this, the more likely it actually gets fixed and reduces future problems.
You told your husband that the man giving you lifts to work in Calgary was just a colleague.
At a gathering, somebody casually mentions that you dated for 3 years in Lagos.
Your husband is now learning the history in front of people who assumed he already knew.
I really hope you guys do not have kids because I cannot understand why you do this.
You got away with things that were Fouls .. penalties you should have conceded where not given..
Goals were counted From grabbing players.. which technically is a foul..You never conceded penalties into the EPL in 2 years... While not the same in UCL...
It was only a matter of time
🚨🔥 Mikel Arteta says penalty given to Sunderland is “unacceptable”.
“Look, the first question we have to discuss is that this is NOT ACCEPTABLE at this level.
"It was a beautiful game of football, with two teams and an atmosphere in the stadium that was unbelievable, with Sunderland they are so organised; they are so good in so many phases, they have great players, they created a lot of issues we had to cope with.
"We had to cope with all of that, it was a lot in a really difficult week after Chelsea and Napoli, and on top of that we have to go through what we've done today that in my opinion is NOT ACCEPTABLE.
"I watched it 20 times, and I CANNOT find a way to understand how they even think to give a penalty in that situation, or the way the VAR has to intervene.
"So I don't know what to think, but I'm SAD that we have to discuss in such a beautiful game something at this level that has the gravity of that, because that CHANGES the course of the season and can cost you the championship.
"At this level, with all the work that we put in, this cannot happen. I cannot find an explanation - that's why I'm going to try and find an explanation now.
"I want to be talking about how good we were, how good Sunderland were, and the level of the league and how beautiful this is - we should not be talking about that.
"I cannot find an explanation - that's why I'm going to try and find an explanation now."
Let's not act like last season didn't happen.
I knew Arsenal was gonna get a penalty sooner rather than later.
After last season spot been shown on them.. then the carrying of Rodgers leading to the second goal against Chelsea..
It was bound to happen..to concede a soft penalty.. but coming out to speak against it...after dodging it and getting favorable decisions last season is something I didn't expect.
If you like take this with a pinch of salt....and say there is a void to fill since Uber has left... Oju e ma bo....
This means its just a matter of time before the others follow through
This was the reason Uber left Nigeria. GST team is doing an amazing job, they are well-researched. Nigerians have no idea they are paying a 7.5% transportation VAT via hidden charges. Don’t allow the APC to gaslight you.
@Aimee_ddee Yes...
Clocked it was Freddy the moment they tried to kidnap the baby...
And I love that Eddie was just slapping him, not punch.. but slaps
