@Ms_KMiller1@janelance2nd Teachers should always build upon students' prior knowledge! Before starting a new topic of instruction, see what the students already know and what they want to learn more about. This will allow for more opportunities for student engagement.

Explicit instruction provides clear goals and learning outcomes for students. Also, this instruction follows the "I do," "we do," and "you do" approach which allows students to gradually move towards independence with new skills.
