UNAUTHORIZED CHINESE RESEARCH IN PHILIPPINE WATERS
Four Chinese research vessels were detected operating inside the Philippines’ EEZ without consent. Under UNCLOS, Chinese scientific research in another country’s EEZ requires permission, and the Philippines acted lawfully by detecting, challenging, and expelling the vessels. This is not “normal activity” it is a rules violation that creates risk when ignored. Call it what it is, share verified updates, and back lawful enforcement that protects our waters and our rights.

PCG AND BFAR DEPLOY VESSELS TO PROTECT FILIPINO FISHERMEN FROM CHINESE HARASSMENT IN BAJO DE MASINLOC
In response to continued harassment by Chinese Coast Guard vessels against more than 20 Filipino fishing boats last weekend, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) immediately deployed two PCG vessels and five fishery patrol vessels to Bajo de Masinloc.
The joint PCG-BFAR deployment ensured the safety and security of the Filipino fishermen while delivering vital support, including fuel subsidies, food packs, and ice to extend their fishing operations and help offset rising fuel costs.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan also directed the deployment of the PCG Caravan for a Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) flight over the area. The flight documented six China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels, 20 China Maritime Militia (CMM) vessels, and one People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy) warship in the vicinity.
This operation marks a significant first: the PCG has documented the China Coast Guard vessel announcing via live radio broadcast its intention to conduct a clearing operation at the following coordinates:
- Point A: 15°05'N, 118°10'E
- Point B: 15°05'N, 118°25'E
- Point C: 14°14'N, 118°25'E
- Point D: 14°14'N, 118°10'E
The Philippine Coast Guard remains steadfast in its full support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s commitment to defend Philippine sovereignty, sovereign rights, and maritime jurisdiction in the West Philippine Sea. In line with the President’s vision, the PCG will continue to uphold international law and protect the rights, safety, and livelihoods of Filipino fishermen from external threats and harassment.
BREAKING: 🇨🇳🇵🇭 Major confrontation erupts in the South China Sea.
Tensions are escalating near the Scarborough Shoal as China and the Philippines face off in a high stakes standoff.
The Philippine Coast Guard and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources deployed 2 coast guard ships and 5 patrol vessels after Chinese forces harassed 20+ Filipino fishing boats inside the Philippines’ EEZ.
A surveillance flight revealed a powerful Chinese presence:

🪀 20 Maritime Militia ships
🪀 1 PLA Navy warship
Officials say “offensive activities” are underway, raising fears of a dangerous flashpoint in one of the world’s most contested waters.
Scientists have detected traces of nuclear activity in the West Philippine Sea. They found higher levels of a radioactive substance called iodine-129 in seawater samples from this area.
After testing 119 samples from different parts of Philippine waters, they discovered that iodine-129 levels in the West Philippine Sea were 1.5 to 1.7 times higher than in nearby regions. This isotope is almost always produced by human nuclear activities (like nuclear reactors or old weapons tests), so it acts as a clear sign of nuclear-related processes.
Most likely, ocean currents carried it from the Yellow Sea area near China. There, nuclear fuel reprocessing plants and leftover contamination from Cold War-era nuclear tests probably released it into rivers and the ocean, and it traveled hundreds of miles to reach Philippine waters.
Good news: the levels are very low and pose no danger to people, fish, or the environment.
This discovery shows how connected our oceans are and why countries need to work together to monitor and protect them. It's also a great example of important scientific work being done right here in the Philippines.
