While I don’t disagree with your premise, what is a reasonable amount of time to count many millions of ballots? What’s your number?

They are counting all the ballots in the California count. I’m not defending them, I only provided the reason it takes so long.

@Jake_W This is how I counted: The automatic machine recount began on November 8, 2000 (the day after the election). The U.S. Supreme Court halted the statewide manual recount: December 12, 2000. Al Gore conceded December 13, 2000. That's 35 days. I was off a day.

Neither approach is cost-free: one favors speed, the other favors allowing more opportunities for ballots to be validated and counted.

@MagaGrunt1 Today's republicans are not the same as republicans back then. Back then, republicans wanted a bigger federal government. They also were not as focused on religion as they are today. There are many differences and you probably would not support their causes.
