The most valuable thing I learned from Ling 107 was the phonetic alphabet! I really enjoyed learning about all the different phonetic spellings and translations. I know this will help me a lot in my teaching career when I have my own students! #ling107f22
Hi Denny! I love your take away from this class! Patience, kindness and reassurance are super important qualities for a teacher to have. Being open minded and realizing that students work at different paces will not only create a more inclusive learning (1/2) #ling107f22
The most valuable thing I learned in #Ling107F22 is that language is on a spectrum, and we shouldnโt judge students when they fall short of an ideal. What matters most is communication and as teachers we should be striving to break barriers between learners and native speakers.
In my hometown, there is an outdoor mall down the street from my house called The Streets of Brentwood. Everyone gave it the nickname "the streets", so when someone says that they are going to go to the streets to go Christmas shopping, they are talking about the mall #ling107f22
@_kimmartinez1 Hi Kimberly! It is really common for people to confuse there, their and theyre. Heres a photo I like to refer to when im not sure which one is the correct spelling, I hope this helps! #Ling107f22
@les_ling107 different conjugations is near impossible. Its not until you start really practicing speaking your Spanish whenever you get the chance that you will really start to grasp and understand the concept of conjugations. I hope this helps!! (2/2) #Ling107f22
@les_ling107 Hi Lesly! This is very hard for me as well. When I first started learning Spanish in high school, my mom (who is a fluent Spanish speaker) had the most difficulty helping me with conjugation practice. Learning it on paper and trying to memorize all the (1/2) #Ling107f22
@Ling107_yess The English language is very confusing! Words like read, live and tear can also be pronounced different ways and have different meanings. Sometimes the only way to distinguish the correct pronunciation is by using context clues from the sentence (1/2) #Ling107f22
One thing I have always struggled with is the difference between to and too. Sometimes I get confused on which one is the correct one to use, does anyone have a trick on how to distinguish the difference? #ling107f22

Modals can easily change the meaning of a sentence unintentionally. At my job working with toddlers I have to be extra conscious of the words I use to avoid negative interactions. Instead, I have to use positive language in a firm way. For example, I would start (1/?) #Ling107f22
My language role model is my mom. My mom learned Spanish in her twenties and is now a dual immersion teacher for transitional kindergarten and helps children become bilingual. I have been struggling for many years now to learn Spanish, and my mom inspires me to keep going (1/2)
I wake up to the sound of my alarm, it is 8AM. Today is the day, a smile immediately forms on my cheeks. I get out of bed with no hesitation, looking forward to seeing your face and holding you close gives me motivation and perseverance to push through #cnftweet#Ling107f22
when it is prohibited you will receive a big fine and maybe even get your car towed. This sign shows that the community wants to keep its streets cleaned and prioritize parking for residents in the area #Ling107f22
The sign I found is right outside of my apartment complex. The sign states that there is no parking allowed every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 9am to 12pm for street sweeping for residents with a SUN permit as well as no parking from 8am to 8pm except sundays and holidays (1)
unless you have a SUN permit. This sign is here in order to make sure that there is street parking for residents and to also ensure that the street will be cleared for street sweeping every 3rd Tuesday. The sign is very effective because if you are parked on the street (2)
because it was so random, a funny definition and a fun word to say! Depending on the context that you use it in can change the definition completely, so it can be a tricky word to use in your everyday vocabulary #Ling107f22
A word I learned was defenstrate in High School in my Latin language class because it is composed of latin roots. It means to throw someone out of a window, or it could mean to remove someone from a position of power. This has always stuck with me (1/2) #Ling107f22
