Our dams are overflowing. Yet Rand Water refuses to increase pumping while communities run dry.

This is not a shortage of bulk water.
This is a failure of political will.

The DA can reveal Rand Water has not increased pumping to Gauteng metros, despite DWS granting a temporary licence increase to draw more from the Vaal.

Residents were promised a surge in supply. Taps are still dry.

🚱Many areas in Joburg are still battling with no access to water. The Department of Water and Sanitation recently approved additional water abstractions for Rand Water after the DA called for this action on 11 Feb. It is currently unclear if the water has been channelled into Joburg Water as there is little to no recovery of systems like the Commando System.
While communication remains a challenge, the DA will continue to push for transparency during this water crisis.

Good evening.

Apologies for the silence yesterday and earlier today, especially with so many Gauteng residents still without water.

I want you to know this has had my full attention. I’ve been engaging intensively with DA leaders in affected municipalities, our Gauteng legislature team, and fellow parliamentarians, including colleagues working on COGTA matters, to push for immediate support and clearer coordination.

I understand how desperate and angry people are. No household should be left without water for days on end.

While the DA does not run the affected municipalities or the province, we are working to ensure practical assistance is brought in from outside the failing systems, and that officials are held accountable for delays, poor communication, and slow recovery.

I’m pushing for verified updates and concrete commitments, and I expect to share more detail tomorrow.
