@Calli_Baba There’s no better options right now. Have you watched the bullpen this year? Yikes. They never had MLB pitching depth this year and it’s finally rearing its head with injuries and innings limits. They have given us something to cheer about this year but it was fool’s gold
@SBrew60657 The bullpen is horrible. Half the rotation is injured and the other half is on an innings limit. Pitching is everything. They didn’t have pitching depth that is MLB ready. That’s a roster problem, not an Oli problem. Has he been perfect? No. But nobody is winning with this roster
@AlexanderM27414 What stats are you looking at? He’s top 3 if not the top defensive catcher of all time. Over 2,000 hits and 1,000 RBIs as a catcher…..he’s first ballot
@jschaeff23 You just don’t get it. Sal came up and the Reds have been worse. Not saying it’s his fault at all. It’s just that his performance is not elevating the team and if it stays that way, he will eventually move on. JJ has elevated the cardinals and will be a huge part moving forward
@RobotNumber5 My answer is based in factual evidence (statistics) and using physical proof is a logical way to reason. I’ll bet my next paycheck that if you took a poll of every MLB fan they would overwhelmingly want JJ and Burly on their roster vs Sal
@RobotNumber5 How so? The addition of JJ to the cardinals has elevated their team tremendously. Sal is a good player on a bad team. As far as Burly vs Sal. They have equal power but Burly hits for AVG as well. And Burly is one of the best defensive 1B statistically
@jschaeff23 Yes he’s having a good year. But what value is this guy to the Reds specifically? 30HR and 100RBI season is impressive but it’s a last place team. That’s why he will be traded or sign elsewhere long term.
@RobotNumber5 That’s crazy talk. JJ has been very productive from the leadoff spot and is only going to get better offensively. He’ll be a perennial gold glover. Sal will be traded bc the reds are terrible. Plus I’ll take Burly over Sal at 1B any day
@jschaeff23 If I had hitch my horse to one or the other for the future I would favor JJ. He has undeniably elevated his team. They have already surpassed the win total that the “experts” thought they would have this year and there’s 34 games left
@Craig_Sandlin How’s he supposed to cover first when they were in double play defensive coverage? That’s on the 1B. Has to cover the bag and the pitcher field the bunt
@jschaeff23 And your point? Doesn’t mean they played the other position at an elite level. Bobby Witt is the only SS in MLB that has more OAA than JJ. JJ has 22. The next closest 2B has 11.
@jschaeff23 He would be just as good at SS but Winn is there. Most franchises don’t trade an allstar to open up a spot for a guy who had not played in one game like they did for JJ. He will be a cornerstone for STL for years. Sal will be a Yankee soon bc the Reds are pathetic
@BKSportsTalk Sal only has the hit tool. JJ is more well rounded. Even when JJ isn’t hitting he still gets on base at a crazy rate and scores a lot of runs. It’s hard for JJ to rack up RBIs when he hits leadoff and 6-9 is terrible. Defense is phenomenal, might win a gold glove this year
