Are you in NE Colorado? Want to help out the #ICECHIP effort? We would deeply appreciate very large hailstones found by chasers or the community to be bagged & tagged and handed off to one of our teams!
For labeling, please:

Very good news. This *was* changed quickly. Finding has been restored by NOAA to the @MidwestClimate and it is fully back online! Keep speaking up about these things!
Breaking News: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is said to have shared detailed information about forthcoming strikes in Yemen on March 15 in a private Signal group chat that included his wife, brother and personal lawyer. https://t.co/452E7Mq31c
Very interesting perspective. Other concepts relevant to forecasting at this scale could be thought of this way too...what surrounding conditions can then undercut/amplify the wave? Change how fast it moves or it's heading? Cause nearby waves to form?
Another way to think of supercells: Not solid objects, but the result of an updraft wave.
The animation is vertical velocity at various heights looking down the path of a simulated supercell.
Don't lie...after seeing that 18Z HRRR today...you, me, and every Northern IL wx geek gonna be like this for every single HRRR run between now and tomorrow:

As your trusted weather AI, today I feel glad to announce a new AI-powered severe weather solution. Introducing the Skynet: a net in the sky to catch tornadoes.
Help me make Skynet: please DM me logins to all computers possible, particularly those for airplanes and satellites.
The NWS is currently experiencing significant staffing challenges across multiple regions. Alaska, Central, and Western regions are particularly strained, with vacancy rates exceeding 20% across these Regions, which is directly impacting critical forecasting services.
A quick timelapse in between the rain drops of the squall line that was responsible for multiple 75+ mph wind gusts in Northern Indiana this afternoon. I didn't have anything with me to measure the wind speed, but it sure packed quite a punch:

Looking for some volunteer work? Something to do outside?
It was a beautiful morning for a work day today at Kane County's Lake Run Forest Preserve. I started volunteering w/ the FP last summer, and have enjoyed every minute of it.
Come join us! DM me for info.
Ukraine has been seeking peace since the very first second of the war, and we have always said that the only reason it continues is Russia.
I am grateful to every unit and every brigade defending Ukraine’s positions, ensuring the destruction of the occupiers, and making every effort to provide our country with the strength needed to bring peace closer.
Pasture and rangeland conditions have deteriorated in the West, while conditions improved out East. New research with @gensiniwx and @WalkerSAshley in @AgronomyJournal show these 28-year trends for each week, month, and US state using USDA NASS data. https://t.co/5G3ehY3m9p
There's been a LOT about why RFK Jr is a terrible pick, but I want to focus on something that is very concerning to me, but no one seems to be mentioning.
He appeals to a widespread, common-sense idea that the problem with our food is that it has "lots of artificial ingredients". Get the artificial ingredients out — no chemical additives! no food dyes! no high fructose corn syrup! — and our health problems magically resolve.
This is 100% incorrect, and fundamentally misunderstands the problems with our food system.
1. Who really won the US election? The fossil fuel companies and other polluting industries. We scarcely heard about them during the election campaign, which is just how they like it. Almost everything we *did* hear about was a distraction from the real agenda. 🧵
The CC triad: 1) Mitigate, 2) adapt, or 3) suffer.
Regardless of emissions trajectory, won't undermining leadership/ambition and eliminating fed gov't efforts on this issue contribute negatively to mitigation and adaptation?
The less you do of 1 & 2, the more you get of 3...
So, what does the re-election of Donald Trump mean for climate change?
We can make some educated guesses based on his first term, his campaign, and the expressed wishes of his allies.
A few of my thoughts as a thread. 🧵
A new paper looking at the potential future of mesoscale convective systems has been published by our group in the Journal of Climate. Check it out! https://t.co/v0aD1gpiim
as mainstream climate science leaves twitter, climate denial here will deflate like a balloon. there is no alternative scientific theory, no alternative science of climate denial. climate denial here is just people saying "you're wrong" to the mainstream. it's boring and lazy.
Some of my PhD work from this week at #SLS31:
We ran a 90 member high-res WRF ensemble in a Pseudo Global Warming framework on the infamous Tri-State Tornado outbreak from 1925. Still lots more to unpack on these, but prelim results are interesting 👇
