Before we thank Flick, you need to know that every Barça fan owes this man a huge thank you.

When Hansi Flick first appointed Benjamin Kugel, one of the first things he said was:

“We don’t train muscles, we train players to move. This game doesn’t require huge, powerful muscles. It requires a body that can use those muscles functionally, adapting perfectly to the demands of every situation without any problems.”

Benjamin Kugel is the first fitness coach at the club to monitor every player individually and consistently, staying alongside the squad throughout their training sessions.

He designs training sessions based on each player’s physical needs, position and role on the pitch. He constantly tracks their physical condition and performance data to determine the right workload and recovery time. Every player gets an individual programme tailored to their needs instead of everyone training at the same intensity.

Most importantly, he was the one who insisted that Flick shouldn’t take any risks with Raphinha.

That’s why, for the first time in years, Barça have come out of an international break looking this physically strong.

Benjamin Kugel deserves enormous credit for his work behind the scenes. A massive thank you for everything he’s doing for this team!
