The localizers huff their own fumes harder than I expected, and of course they aren't going to acknowledge the blatant cultural erasure they did in the name of "recognizability" and "authenticity"
You made Daitaku Helios a zoomer because gyaru culture "is not very well-known outside of Japan." You translated one of Maruzensky's iconic nicknames as "Hot Rod," because apparently the English loan word "Super Car" couldn't be translated properly
Not to mention the removal of romantic subtext in many Uma stories and the demonization of global fans who like this stuff. Same comment in the English section of the official Discord server will get you banned while getting thumbs up in the Japanese section. I've already shone light on how they completely removed any direct references to Christmas despite the word "Christmas" entering directly into my ears by listening to *what the characters are saying*. "Miracle Over the Holy Night" changed to "Hungry for a Miracle"
"Creative approaches" my ass. I wish the Japanese fans knew how badly some of the greatest works of their modern culture are butchered in the name of sociopolitical interests overseas. I want these translators ousted from any legitimate cultural institutions and replaced by people who actually give a shit about these works like the fansubbers doing thankless work for decades now. Makes my fucking blood boil
Now I see why the translation is crap; it was designed to please a certain group.
By the way, I recommend you read the article because just this wouldn't be enough.
