China's innovation ecosystem creates global opportunities

The 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF), also known as the 2026 Summer Davos forum, wrapped up in Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning province on June 25 after three days of discussions on the future of technology, industry and global innovation cooperation.

Against a backdrop of slowing global growth, geopolitical tensions and mounting uncertainty, the forum sent a positive message of seeking new solutions and advancing together through cooperation.

Inside and outside the conference venue, one consensus has grown increasingly solid: driven by innovation, China is elevating its development opportunities. As it delivers greater market dividends, the country is also sharing a rising stream of innovation dividends with the globe.

Innovation has consistently been central to Summer Davos themes. This year's "Innovating at Scale" discussions emphasized the crucial shift from technological breakthroughs to widespread application, transforming new ideas into tangible productivity that drives economic growth and improves lives.

Discussions on advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics generated significant interest. A focal point became the rapid emergence and adoption within China of new technologies, products, and business models.

In recent years, China has demonstrated swift uptake across large AI models, new energy, electric vehicles, advanced manufacturing, humanoid robots, and the burgeoning low-altitude economy. This transition, moving specific innovations into broad industrial applications, has yielded replicable models and valuable experience.

Stephan Mergenthaler, WEF managing director and chief technology officer, highlighted this by noting AI technology's shift towards industrial use. He suggested many developing countries could leverage China's experience to identify their own competitive advantages and effectively integrate into the global AI value chain.

Given the complex international landscape marked by slowing economic growth and turbulence, innovation stands out as a vital path to counter downward pressures and unlock new momentum. Addressing challenges like shifts in global trade patterns, accelerating the energy transition, and maximizing AI investment benefits requires intensified international cooperation.

China's sustained openness serves as a critical enabler in this equation. Increasing numbers of multinationals are expanding their research and development activities such as building R&D centers and regional headquarters in China, not simply to manufacture products but to participate in local innovation and industrial chains.

Their focus increasingly moves from tapping into "Made in China" manufacturing capacity to participating in "Created in China" innovation. Building on this trend, foreign-invested enterprises in China's scientific and technical services sector surged by 27.2 percent year-on-year in 2025, adding 14,000 new businesses.

For global enterprises, this represents "China Opportunity 2.0": deep innovation integration and rewarding investment prospects. For worldwide development, it signifies broader access to advanced technologies and more inclusive sharing of its outcomes.

The forum also devoted considerable attention to China's 15th Five-Year Plan, helping participants gain a clearer understanding of the vast opportunities generated by China's innovation-driven development.

Since the beginning of this year, the Chinese economy has continued to demonstrate new vitality and renewed dynamism. The demand potential of its enormous market has been further unleashed, with service consumption, green consumption and new forms of consumption emerging as particular bright spots.

This demonstration of resilience is contributing needed stability to an uncertain global environment. A prevailing view among attendees was that the 15th Five-Year Plan's strategies for developing "new quality productive forces" and nurturing emerging industries present significant "historic opportunities" for international development partners.

Ultimately, innovation delivers its greatest value when it is shared across the globe. As China's innovations go global and are deployed on a larger scale, more countries, especially developing ones, are gaining access to affordable new technologies and products, injecting fresh momentum into modernization worldwide.

China stands ready to work with all parties to tear down walls and build bridges, stimulate innovation through exchanges and mutual learning, and achieve common growth through mutual success. By enlarging the pie of the global economy through innovation, China seeks to ensure that the dividends of innovation benefit all and provide a continuous source of Chinese strength for the recovery of the world economy. If you own a MacBook, you'll need these shortcuts:

🔹 Cmd + Space
This opens Spotlight, through which you can search for any app, file, or document on your Mac. You can even do quick calculations without opening a calculator.

🔹 Cmd + Shift + 5
Opens a menu that gives you screenshot options and screen recording.

🔹 Cmd + Shift + 4
Lets you drag and select the specific area of your screen you want to capture (or clip).

🔹 Cmd + Option + Esc
It'll force quit any app that's frozen.

🔹 Cmd + Q
Completely quits an app.
Note that, on Mac, clicking the red X only closes the window; the app is still running in the background. This shortcut actually shuts down the app.

🔹 Cmd + ,
Opens the settings or preferences for whatever app you're currently using. Works across most Mac apps.

🔹 Fn + Delete
Deletes text in front of your cursor, rather than behind it. The regular Delete key on Mac only goes backwards.

🔹 Three-finger swipe on trackpad
Switches between open desktops and full-screen apps. Makes multitasking on Mac much smoother.

Let me tell you how it happened. Nigeria’s ginger export hit zero from N26 billion within 3 years.

The official story blames fungal blight.

But here is what actually happened. When Nigerian farmers lost their indigenous seed supply, grant-aided interventions arrived with replacement seeds.

An associate professor at Lagos Business School flagged publicly that some of those interventions involved GMO organisms that weakened indigenous crops and compromised soil health.

That is not a conspiracy theory because it is a documented academic concern.

Now that Nigeria spoke got destroyed by the GMO seedlings….what is not the result?

Nigeria was forced to import ginger from China to fill domestic demand. Chinese ginger has none of the pungency, oleoresin content, or quality that made Nigerian ginger a global premium product. And the ginger now sitting in Nigerian markets tastes like wood because it essentially is wood.

The two indigenous varieties that built Nigeria’s global ginger reputation, the Tafin Giwa and Yatsun Biri, had decades of soil relationship and quality built into them.

Once the soil was degraded and those seed varieties were displaced, the product that returned was a pale imitation. Nigeria did not just lose a market. It lost a seed. And without a National Ginger Seed Bank, which nobody has built, it may never fully get it back.

The worst Roman emperor in history was a 19 year old who thought he was the reincarnation of Hercules. If you saw the movie Gladiator, you know him as Joaquin Phoenix's character. His real name was Commodus, and the reason his story is so dark is that his father was Marcus Aurelius, the philosopher king who wrote the Meditations.

When Marcus died in 180 AD, Commodus inherited the most powerful empire the world had ever seen. He immediately abandoned his father's wars on the German frontier, made a humiliating peace, and rode back to Rome to play.

He fought in the Colosseum 735 times. He won every match, because his opponents fought him with wooden swords while he used a real one. The Senate was forced to pay him a million sesterces every time he stepped into the arena.

He once gathered men who had lost their feet to accident or disease, dressed them from the knees down as serpentine giants, handed them sponges to throw at him as "rocks," and clubbed them to death in front of the Roman public for sport.

On another day, he decapitated an ostrich in the arena, walked up to the senators in the front row, and held the bloody head up at them with a smile. The historian Cassius Dio was sitting there that day. He writes that the senators chewed on the laurel leaves from their crowns to hide their hysterical, terrified laughter, because they understood the head was a promise.

He renamed the city of Rome itself "Colonia Commodiana." Colony of Commodus.

He renamed all twelve months of the year after his own twelve titles.

He declared himself a living god, dressed publicly in a lion skin, carried a wooden club, and demanded to be addressed as Hercules, son of Zeus.

His own sister Lucilla tried to have him assassinated. He survived and had her executed. His wife Crispina was exiled to an island and quietly killed. His chamberlain Cleander began openly selling senate seats and consulships for cash. In one year, twenty five different men were appointed consul.

On New Year's Eve, 192 AD, his mistress Marcia found her own name on his execution list for the next morning. She poisoned his wine. He vomited it up. So she sent in his personal wrestling coach, a man named Narcissus, who strangled him to death in his bath.

The very next year, the imperial throne of Rome was literally auctioned off to the highest bidder by the Praetorian Guard. Five different men claimed the title of emperor in twelve months. Civil war never really stopped after that.

Edward Gibbon, who wrote the definitive history of Rome's collapse, opens his entire 3000 page book with the death of Marcus Aurelius and the rise of his son.

The Roman Empire would limp on for another 284 years in the west before it finally fell.

But the Pax Romana, the longest stretch of peace and prosperity the ancient world had ever known, died on the German frontier with Marcus Aurelius.

His son made sure of it.

As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio.

Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to.

We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all.
