The Chargers plan to retain wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal and quarterbacks coach Shane Day, per source.
Much change on offense with Mike McDaniel’s arrival but he will work with both coaches.
The #Chargers are expected to hire #Dolphins run game specialist Chandler Henley, sources tell @CBSSports.
Worked for Miami under Mike McDaniel the last four seasons. Now expected to be part of McDaniel’s offensive staff with the Chargers.
It’s considered a strong possibility the #Chargers hire #Dolphins offensive assistant Max McCaffrey, potentially as running backs coach, sources tell @CBSSports.
Is a former NFL receiver and the older brother of 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey and Commanders WR Luke McCaffrey. Has worked for Miami the last three seasons.
I was the Justin Herbert vote.
The guy had the worst offensive line in the NFL all season and despite that he was working miracles in almost every single game.
Stafford's OL became 2/5ths as bad as Herbert's for 5 minutes and he became a turnover howitzer.
He embodied 'value'.
Former Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman didn't mince words on Odafe Oweh & what went wrong last season with the Ravens:
"You don't get drafted that high, you don't go where he went if you can't play football. ... This guy can play all along, but he just wasn't in a position to win.

One of the things I keep hearing from #chargers fans is that they've "heard Ioane isn't a scheme fit for a Mcdaniel offense"
Can we stop this nonsense?
It's actually a pretty clean fit....with a few caveats. Regardless of which version of the Shanahan/Mcdaniel branch we see in 2026, the basics of the run scheme are the same, and he's a perfectly clean fit.
The McDaniel run game lives on outside zone, inside zone and split zone concepts. For interior OL, that means movement is more important than pure mass.
Ioane checks a lot of those boxes,
He has an explosive first step & lateral quickness. He can reach a shaded nose or 3tec, which is fundamental in O/S zone.
Despite being listed at 330lbs (I expect him to weigh in less at the combine) he's considered by some to be a gap scheme mauler, he shows on tape that he understands the concept of angles over raw power, and he wins by leverage and footwork rather than just displacing guys vertically and has near elite second level ability, he is more than capable of climbing to linebackers and filling in space, Penn state often used him in packages as a SB/TE.
He's also excellent in combo blocks and has a good feel for timing on double teams before peeling off, a staple of Shanahan-style fronts.
#Chargers fans: Tony Jefferson told me LAST YEAR that Chris O’Leary would be a future DC in the NFL … and he’s now the #Chargers DC.
“I’m older than him. He’s up there as one of my favorite day-to-day coaches. I’ve been taught so much safety stuff from him, even though I’ve played however long. The spotlight needs to be on that dude.” 🎯🎯🎯
