BREAKING: The Department of Education posted a video on X comparing Trump to Hitler, then deleted it after the internet noticed.

The video was meant to hype up the president. Instead, it became one of the most embarrassing self-owns of the Trump administration's social media era. On Wednesday, the department's official X account shared a clip pulled straight from "Darkest Hour," the 2017 film about Winston Churchill's fight against Nazi Germany. In the scene, Churchill, played by Gary Oldman, shouts, "You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth." The department's editors cut straight from that line to a triumphant montage of Trump, set to a thumping beat, captioned "No one does it like us," with a tiger emoji for good measure.

There was just one problem. In the film, the "tiger" Churchill is talking about is Hitler.

The department deleted the post and told reporters a staffer had used a trending TikTok audio format without understanding what the clip actually referenced. Maybe. But this is not an isolated incident. It is the latest in a long line of edgy, meme-driven propaganda pumped out by Trump's own agencies and staff, some of it flirting with outright white nationalist imagery. The same instinct that produces AI slop depicting the Obamas as apes or Trump as Jesus Christ is the instinct that thought a Churchill-versus-Hitler scene was a good vehicle for hyping the president. It is not just careless. It is what happens when propaganda replaces public service as the actual mission of a government agency.

The Department of Education is currently being dismantled by this administration, its staff gutted and its funding for students slashed. Apparently there was still enough of a budget left over for whoever makes the hype videos.
